Hi Boxite,

I was actually referring to all of the construction that is going on in the park in 2019. The biggest issue for us is that Fishing Bridge is closed for the season so we cannot access the park from the east. With that, and other road construction, I am figuring that the traffic will be a nightmare. We will go elsewhere in 2019.

In 2020, we will plan on going to Yellowstone if most of these construction issues are cleaned up.

Thanks.

For the record, while the Fishing Bridge RV Park will be closed for the summer 2019 season, the road and the bridge will be open so you may enter and leave through the east gate.

Largest site in Grant Village was shown as a 40' total length (truck, camper with tongue). They warn to not book a site smaller than the total length of your rig. I figure my rig to be around 50'. So I called the reservation phone number. It turns out the larger sites are not shown online. I was able to book a site long enough to handle my rig by calling the reservation number.
What is the reservation number?

BTW/ recreation.gov says they do not handle YS reservations.

We were noobs on our first trip to Yellowstone last May. At the West Yellowstone visitor center on 5-18-18 we used their phone to try and make camping reservations. The campsites had just opened that day and they said they were not taking reservations on the first day. What?

Anyway, we drove through the Southern loop and checked at their Bridge Bay campground. Got in with no problem, pretty empty.

Didn't want to question our luck, so I never went back to find out if we could have made reservations earlier.

if you fly your own plane in you can tent camp at the airport for free. however, this has always struck me as a real opportunity for bears.
