Law Chick, In some areas of Montana there is a sales tax. They link the tax to tourist activities and areas that are heavily visited get taxed. We ran into it in several places.

Adios,
Dan

We (LawChick and I) are camping at St. Mary Campground in East Glacier and have spotted two other AS's. A 22 or 23 International from Virginia and a Safari LS (slide out) from Illinois. Both sets of occupants are currently gone from the units so we couldn't stop and talk to them. Maybe they'll say something on here?

Just saw a dual-axle Safari with Florida tags pull thru St. Mary Campground loop C. Apparently they aren't staying in this loop because I went looking for them and couldn't find them.

Should be fallish and lovely by the time you get there, and crowds starting to thin out.

Had rain this morning at St. Mary Campground, was told it snowed at Logan Pass and we had sleet while taking the shuttle across the "Going to the Sun Road". Also heard they had hail at Many Glacier Campground this morning. The weather just added to the beauty of GNP. Now we are looking at a partly cloudy sunset!

Got new neighbors this morning, a Flying Cloud and it's delightful owners. It's their second AS, but they have yet to join AirForum.

We're arriving in W Yellowstone Sept 6. Today we saw a prediction of "smoke and haze" in Yellowstone from fires in Idaho and Washington. Anybody there currently to report on the extent of smoke/haze conditions? Thanks -
Mark

We'll be in Grant Village Sept 18-21, then moving down to Grand Teton for a few days. Lots of end of season campers, it seems! I'm putting the winter tires on the van before we leave - just in case.

Its been hazy for a few weeks now. The amount of haze varies from day to day. I was in teton/yellowstone last weekend. It was hazy, but it didnt bother me to breathe. Yesterday was smoky with falling ash in Butte, Mt, but today was much clearer. Cooler today also. Cooler temps in September should clear things up.

Today started off with visibility of about 5 miles in smoke. Wind came up at about 1100 and things improved to about double that. WX forecast calls for smoke the next couple of days. Most is from the Idaho fires but we have a couple of fires in the park now and one of them blew up to about 400 acres today. We need some snow...

Mark, we loved Grant Village. It's so nice and shady you won't notice smoke much when you're in the campground. We could see it in the distance in some areas around the park, but the rangers said the fires in Yellowstone were under control. Hope that's still the case.

We were in the park for three days and it was hazy every day with the intensity dependent on which way the wind blows. Stayed in Bridge Bay which is not the nicest CG but the buffalo were there camping with us which was very entertaining.

This is the pine creek fire, spouted up Wednesday, it is rocking and rolling pretty hard, it was over 5,000 acres this morning.

As well the Milie fire in Bozeman is over 10,000 acres. There are also 3 other fires burning, all started Wednesday.

It is pretty bad right now.

I left from Butte, Mt on wednesday afternoon, for Colorado. It was very smoky along I90 due to new fires on Homestake pass near butte and another above bozeman. I got off I90 at cardwell and headed south. The smoke began to thin out at ennis.

I drove through island park, ashton, and driggs, Id. It was pretty clear. Only a very slight haze. Much better than it was two weeks ago. So the Yellowstone area is good. You can see the tetons again.

I shot this pic tuesday night. The smoke on the mountain is the beginning of the homestake pass fire

No smoke or haze in Yellowstone tonight. Wonderful drenching thunderstorm moved through here at Slough Creek. Herd of bison came through the campground this morning. Hoping for some sunshine in the AM :-) nice and cozy in our 68 Overlander. Loving it!
