It'll be August for us. Have a great time and take a jacket as it'll be colder than Texas! We nearly froze in Red Lodge, MT one trip up to Yellowstone on July 4th. Have a great trip.

We're also of thinking to heading out there in August. Although we are late making reservations. Checked on one place they could get us in after the 10th. yeow its filling up. Glad to see a thread or two on yellowstone. Theres four of us in a '08 27FB Intl. Did black Hills last year for 10 days was best trip ever. Stayed in one localized spot and worked perfect. Kinda nervous about what kind of mountainous driving wed have to deal with. 08 tundra 5.7 has been treating us well so far.

We stayed at the Madison Arm RV Resort in West Yellowstone last year in mid-July. When we pulled out, there were lots of empty spots; and the owners said that the season starts to slow down after the July 4th rush. There should be plenty of spots (at least at the Madison Arm) the week after the 4th.

Fire in Yellowstone

Sounds like the East route is closed due to fire. Smokey skies. Hope it clears up!

black hills

hey rich, for black hills we stayed at the rafter j bar ranch in hill city. it was just the ticket for us. many loops of sites and little cabins. full service hook ups. we were on the end so no neighbors on three sides. lots of trees and open space. every night deer would come and eat grass while we ate dinner. My kids chased them one night but they kept coming back. Nice pool. Pancake breakfast every day. Nice and quiet. Great views. Good luck!

Am I glad I stumbled onto this thread! We may be heading Yellowstone way in August. Since this will be our first time in this part of the country, the info in this thread will be VERY helpful in planning our trip.

Am planning on staying at Sinks State Park on the way to the Grand Tetons since it's a close drive from there of a few hours. Will post more info on this thread as to conditions, discoveries, etc. Given we will be in the park over the 4th of July so it will be packed out I'm sure and not so much like it would be in August or later.

We have stayed at Rafter J Bar Ranch twice. Great place, wonderful people, lots of trees, and clean, clean, clean...

We are headed for this area in mid September and I'm finding many of the more popular choices closed after the 25th. I was able to book Fishing Bridge and Madison in the park but I'm having trouble finding an RV park in the Jackson area. Both Colter Bay Village and Flagg Ranch will be closed so I'm left with Snake River KOA, Jackson Lake RV or the Virginian. This will be the last few days of our trip and my travelling companions are new to the lifestyle and will need full hook ups at this point. Any suggestions? Thanks

Stayed one night at the Virginian last September.

It is ok; very convenient location and the facilities were clean. Even is September, you should make a reservation.
