That's up in the mountains - most places close around October and reopen in April. Virginia Beach is five hours+ away. It was in the 20's last week and early this week. Today is a heat wave, got up to 45.

Our campgrounds are open, but I doubt you'll find anything but a mobile home park open in the Appalacian mountains. It's dry camping if you do.

What is bringing you to Virginia in this weather?

Depending on what you mean by "close" there is "Creekside" in Edinburg, VA about 30ish minutes north, I think they are open year round, nice bath house, etc... If your looking for something closer and depending on what you need, full, w/e, e, bathhouse, etc... I may know of a place in New Market, VA three exits north of H-burg. If you would like to PM me, we can get on the phone and chat. You can also check Endless Caverns they have a CC and there's a KOA in that area.

Let me know,

Yes, Endless Caverns RV Resort (owned by Morgan Resorts) is open year-round. I think some of their services may be limited in the winter, but it is a personal favorite of ours. The sites are nicely spaced, and they are terraced up a hillside. A lovely spot! Oh, and it is about 20 minutes north of Harrisonburg off I-81.

Its not looking good on finding a campground, so for the first time in 5 years I will be in a stick home instead of the AS.

Well, if you haven't made up your mind for sure yet, here's another option:

Stoney Creek Resort - Lakeside Camping and RV Park

It's off of I-81 (Exit 213). We stayed there in our Safari while we were house hunting in Staunton.

Good luck

The place looks nice enough, but it is 40 miles each way into town, which on reflection, is a lot of driving and diesel over the course of a semester.
