Every winter at this time of the year, Winthrop WA has a balloon festival. It is a small intimate group with only 13 balloons this year but still is a lot of fun. The launch field is behind the Winthrop Inn and isn't big enough for many more balloons. Winthrop is a small rustic town with less than 400 population. We are staying at the Pine Near RV park open all year with full hook ups. It is easy walking distance to the small downtown and the park managers are very nice. They used a snow blower to create a space for us.
It can get pretty cold here. The launch temperature was 23 degrees this Saturday morning, but last Tuesday it got down to 2 degrees. The AS is doing well as we use two small electric heaters to stay comfortable.
There are many deer here as they consider this park a nursery for it's safety. They walk right next to the trailer as if we don't exist. Great places to eat in town and many all year activities near by.
We may organize and impromptu potluck rally here next year depending on weather and road conditions. Balloon rides are available too, although expensive. Check it out, google Winthrop Balloon Festival Methow Valley Hot Air Balloon Festival | Winthrop Balloon Round-Up | Washington
