One of these days, I would like to visit Wasilla, and Sarah. And, oh yeah, I will count the Airstreams along the way.

Alaska is an incredibly beautiful state, but the towns and cities are hardly beautiful. Wasilla is just strip development along the highway and doesn't seem to go far beyond the road on either side. It seems to have no center of town. It just sprawls over the landscape and has nothing appealing. And isn't Sarah moving to Scottsdale? Scottsdale sprawls all over the place too, but it does have something of a center of town.

Gene, I didn't know that about Wasilla or Scottsdale, but I reckon even Sarah will "sprawl" one day, too!!

Back to topic......

Must be a northern thing. I have towed from DFW to Key West twice in two years. 6,000 miles total and only saw 4. One of those was mine in the side mirror. Another was a Sunkist Airstream, pulled over on the side of the freeway going a different direction.

Even going to Colorado and back..Only saw 1. Dfw to Pikes Peak area.

I see them just about every weekend on 101 here in Coos Bay. But this year the numbers are up.

Just returned from a 1000 mile round trip and the only Airstream that I saw was in my rear view mirror.

I think RV brands and types tend to be regional, even the used ones. In California you never see a truck mounted camper, but in Texas they seem to be quite common. If you look at the trailers for sale on Tin Can Trailers there are certain brands that are mostly found on the West Coast and others that are mostly found in the South, and then there's Metzendorf - evidentially none of their trailers ever made it more than a few hundred miles from the factory in the Midwest.

We took a long weekend down to Fort Smith AR for the Air Show and saw only one other Airstream on I-44 East of Joplin on the way home. I commented to my wife that, judging from what we saw on the roads and in the park, people are mostly camping in big 5'ers and motorhomes.

It may all come down to timing. This August, we did over 6,400 miles through 16 states in five weeks and saw at least one Airstream on the road in each state. Campgrounds were another matter. With the exception of our boondock nights, there were two or more most nights in the parks. All summed, we saw probably 60 or more but we weren't counting. Missouri and Kansas had the least among the states we visited.

Our storage lot has twelve other Airstreams and in two weeks we will join 22 others for a Fall Leaf Season weekend in North Georgia. They're still out there and a sharp eye will increase the count.

We're staying just north of the north rim of the grand canyon, and we've seen 3 here in 2 days.

We stayed at Costnoa RV Resort (just north of Santa Cruz in CA) last weekend and saw 4 Airstreams. One was very interesting- it had a wide gold stripe around it. I'll bet it was the cat's meow when it rolled out of JC in about 1950!

Most likely it was a Silver Streak. Very nice trailers, but not an Airstream.
