What to see in JC

We're planning a visit to JC this summer for a bit of work, a once-over and a tour. What else is there to see and do? The plan is to be there for a few days, even though the work will take less than a day.

If you like old cars, there is the Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg Museum in Auburn, IN. There is the Packard Museum in Dayton. If you don't mind driving a little further, there is the Studebaker Museum in South Bend, IN.

I asked the same question last year about this time, here's a link.

When we got to JC, they said it was going to take a lot longer for work than we planned for, so we ended up heading to Nashville to visit family stopping on the Bourbon Trail a few places.

We're going again in April and I hope to make it to the AF museum if we can figure out what to do with the dog.

Make plans to have breakfast at the Tilton Hilton, in Lakeview. It's unique, you'll love it, great breakfast, the rest of the day's menu looks great too. There used to be a Thai food truck parked near the old plant, didn't see it last time though, it was outstanding.

Hit Bolly's restaurant in New Bremen for breakfast, then the bicycle museum.

Then head over to Shrine of the Holy Relics in Maria Stein. I've been there twice.

Don't miss the Bicycle Museum in New Bremen, Ohio. It's a ten minute drive from Jackson Center and it's incredible whether you ride or not. I do ride and I was amazed at the history of biking and bicycles. The Neil Armstrong Museum is also a very good choice - just 20 minutes north. Annie Oakley Museum is also close and very worthwhile.

Be sure to visit the city of Wapakoneta as it is beautiful and has some really nice architecture and shops.

Wapakoneta has a really interesting place, donations for entry, Temple of Tolerance. We spent a few hours there and it was a little rainy but don't miss that.

Also, take a look and drive around Indian Lake. We always camp at Indian Lake State Park before Alumapalooza. It's a nice lake where if the weather is good and we have the time, I splash my kayak. Never been there in the height of summer. I'm sure the lake is crazy busy but the houses that are on the water were amazing. We had to keep reminding ourselves this is a damed lake, not tidal like where we lived on the Chesapeake. Some houses are just feet from the water. Last time we took the ride around, there were canals being dredged in order to build more waterfront homes.....

The Champaign Aviation Museum is maybe 45 minutes from JC. They have a B17 under restoration.

Young's Dairy

If you go through Dayton, you have to stop and eat at Young's Dairy in Yellow Springs, Ohio.

Places to eat

Bellefontaine has a charming downtown. Highly recommend Six Hundred Downtown Pizza for a delicious meal in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Wapakoneta has lots of places to eat. We ate at Lulu's Diner Wapak for an outstanding breakfast. The residential area around downtown is really nice.

Botkins has Inn Between restaurant which is very casual, seat yourself neighborhood eatery with great food.

Yellow Springs is a neat town, we stay at John Bryan SP. Also close enough to the Air Force Museum to make easy trip
