Thanks all for the advice. I've taken care of pets for 60 years. Haven't hurt any yet. They love me and I love them. Six of the saddest days of my life have been when the old bird digs are suffering so much from old age that they have to be put down.
We will try taking Kate along with us for a few days in April. She shouldn't have to spend any time in the trailer alone. Be a good test for future longer trips.

Hi,

Almost every major National Park out west is surrounded by National Forest land. They are lest crowded, free and DOG ARE WELCOME. We just hike in National Forest and car tour the National Park. Ask the rangers at the park, they will explain where the dog can and can't go. Even car touring in the parks there will be places you can get out for short walks with the dog.

We have never left our dog alone in the trailer. We chose to have our dog with us, We chose where to travel to. Why would we make a choice to not included "our" dog.

Safe travels

Airstream in campground under shade trees doesn’t get any warmer than my house in the summer. Gotta use good sense though. Obviously if it’s in full sun...meh...never mind.

That has not been my experience. Do you own a dog you care about enough to take that chance?

There are very few dog owners that are cavalier or risk taking with their dogs' lives. Nobody outside of Michael Vick is going to lock up their dog in a 200 degree airstream. Which leads me to the other aspect brought up by a few posters: an airstream with the A/C on full blast with every shade or curtain drawn parked in a shaded campsite will not be as hot as a car parked in the middle of a tree bare asphalt parking lot.
I would actually say it's impolite to insinuate that any of us are stupid, reckless, or uncaring when it comes to caring for our pets.

Yeah, my dogs go where I go; it helps that they have a very strong response to my commands. More than once I've had a park ranger or forest preserve cop come over and want to pet them and not say a word about them being off a leash. But it's only in and around water are they're off the lead in order to fetch or swim. Normally they're on a 6ft. leash just like normal dogs.

I have deleted my comments because some on here have limited reading comprehension and prefer to make things up as to what was posted. All i was trying to do is make sure, positively sure, that your pets are safe!.if the power goes off or the air quits one time, tbere is a problem. Just pointing that out.

Exactly my point. I think my house actually gets hotter than the AS inside if the power fails on a hot day in Michigan. Unlike the locked car scenario they have water in the house or AS. And if I can’t keep my AS frosty cold inside in a campground I’m out of there not to mention my dogs. I (and everyone I know) am smart enough to know if there is a risk. Charts are great but the actual temperature rise will vary with exposure, shade, and duration. I’m sorry that some people don’t have the common sense to figure this out and need a chart but it doesn’t fit all situations. The power could quit on a 90 degree day for a few hours under a canopy of trees (as it did last summer) and my airstream might hit 75 degrees. No need to bring the crowbar. I’m not an idiot so if I were in the desert obviously that’s a different situation.

Funny, of all the places in the house they find a hot, sunny spot in front of a big window and will sleep there for hours even with the AC going. In winter they listen for the furnace to start, then sleep right on top of the vent where the air comes out at 90-100 degrees!

Agreed. I'm pretty sure if the AS is tolerable to me, it will be acceptable for my dog. No one likes being lectured to, especially when there's absolutely no reason.

What to do with your dog?

This isn't going well. I'm done.

we love dogs. Lucky goes everywhere with us. When she can't go on a hike or to a restaurant we leave her in the trailer. She has her bed and water and the run of the place. but she is a good dog. when weather requires we leave heat or AC on for her. We wouldn't leave her all day in hot weather of course. but common sense and care pretty easily show you how long you can leave a pet comfortably.
