You're right, and put our fuel costs in perspective. I remember being in London a few years ago and sitting in my buddie's Peugeot 206 as he put over 100 dollars worth of gas into it. We had a diesel Audi rental in '08 and drove all over Spain, got 50mpg and it totally sold me on diesel.

I saw a story this week that confirmed something I'd read some time ago. Prices are lower in the Rockies because there aren't enough pipelines to ship refined fuel out of the area, so we have a glut here.
There is a gigantic terminal in Cushing, Okla., and I believe this where the bottleneck is. The Keystone pipeline lower leg (Cushing to the Gulf Coast) will relieve the bottleneck, our prices will go up to world prices, and the refined product will be shipped out of the country. When the entire pipeline is built, the crude from Canada will go to the Coast and be sent out of the country.
The Keystone pipeline has become totally politicized. It won't help prices here.

Chevron.
$ 4.45 per gallon for regular.
Still makes Honolulu a nice place to visit, especially since cabs are cheap.

We just got to the Denver area yesterday and on the west side, regular was $3.75 at a few stations. It was cheaper in Grand Junction last week.

Bingo! We are in a world market now and this is just the start of things to come. We rail against government intervention and want the free market to decide on prices. We are about to get what we asked for. Why should our oil companies sell gas here for $3.60 a gallon when they can ship it elsewhere and make far more. It is not about supply, it is all about profit. Think about that for a bit.
We are still paying $3.70 or so a gallon for regular here in the Eastern Washington area.

I did pay cash, saving $.09 a gallon, or almost $4. Normally I try to fill up before the C note cut off.

And Now That We Have Bailed Out The Big Banks
They are soliciting the speculators so as they can offer discounts to their credit card customers to buy fuel, and make us pay for the whole shebang!.. My guess is that the Banks think that they will live on, when the rest of us have been forced into an early grave!
We'd have thought that by now, the executives of Big Bank could figure out 2+2... 'WOOF', our bad!
On another affront, we the people are greeted with a very High Salaried and their retirement benefits Congress! Absolutely Numbing!!
Now again, if my memory serves me correctly, I aced my math test way back in 1951 in the early stages of grade school. And, by the way, my lucky # to this very day!
No Thanks To Big Banks, some of us have survived into 2012! I would think that it is high time ( for them to give back and help US out, for some change! ).

It appears that many of the gas/diesel stations are run by people who cannot think. I filled up last week with diesel and the pump cut off at $75. It always makes me mad when I must insert the card for a second time in order to fill up. I tend to avoid the stations in the future that cut off at a rediculous $ amount. The people that run these stations do not care since they get a pay check regardless.
