Thursday $3.27 over the weekend (Labor day) $3.49. Up $.22 a gal. for all the folks traveling over the holiday weekend.. WELL....Wasn't that nice.

WHY DO THEY CHARGE SO MUCH FOR DIESEL WHEN IT'S A BY PRODUCT?

Because the Military is buying SO MUCH OF IT - supply and demand. BTW - I support the military in every way - but that is where all the diesel is going.

I just refueled today.... Down in the Southern part of New Mexico diesel fuel was $4.03 gal. not to bad compaired to what it has been....

Actually what most people don't know is diesel is not a biproduct, it is just a step above motor oil, when crude comes out of the ground it is refined into what is sweet crude which means it is cleaned and ready for use, the first thing that comes out of SC is motor oil which is again refined for use in different engines starting with diesel semi engines ending with the lighter oil used in cars, then from there fuel is produced, diesel, gasoline, karosine, racing fuel, jet fuel, and so on.
Now this is just the basics but it gives you an idea,
Why is diesel so much higher than regular fuel when it is the first fuel produced? that is because of demand, fuel companies know that Semi trucks, ships, tow trucks, etc, have to have it and have no choice unlike private individuals who can use other fuels, so the fuel companies gouge the transportation industry.

Fuel here on Monday dropped to 3.52 a gallon, will find out today what it is since Gustav did not cause the damage suspected.

Prices holding steady Regla @ $3.51.9 Diesel around $4.23.9

Saw this interesting article.. timestranscript.com - Rising gas prices don't add up

"It would be bad math to calculate the percentage drop in the price of crude and then suggest that pump prices should drop by the same percentage," he said, adding gasoline prices also didn't increase as quickly as oil prices.
He certainly had the first part right. Though the price of crude oil has dropped 25 per cent since it peaked in July, gasoline prices have only dropped 18 per cent.

When crude prices were rising, wholesale gas rose a little less and distributers held back a little bit more, probably afraid it they took their usual profits they would kill their market. Now that crude and wholesale gas have both dropped a lot, the distributers and retailers are playing catch up figuring we'll be glad to have a lower price than 6 weeks ago. This is not to defend any of them, but just to explain how it has worked. I think retail prices should be averaging around $3.45 now, but I think they are somewhat higher.

The Mississippi AG is looking into the .36 cent rise in unleaded gas along the coast in the 5 days prior to GUSTOV and that it has dropped a little since. Anyone say PRICE GOUGING?????? Seems like a sure thing but they never go to court.

BTW - lots of gas stations are now crying for Federal and State help to get National Guard units to supply generators so they can pump the "much needed" fuel for the people going home. Buy your own - the bums.

I live in Freerick MD and it is running about $4.39 / Gal of Diesel (both vehicles I have are diesels so I don't pay attention to gas prices). However, where I work, about 50 miles away from home, just north of D.C. it runs about $4.09. Some of that fine regional pricing. Won't be long before it goes up with the annual "we're making heating oil" deal.

Bob, what chain is that? The most we get here is 10¢ off at the local Kroger chain store and Safeway and they've been putting up more hoops to limit that.

Just paid $4.06 for Diesel! Saw it for $3.98 down the road further, but it was a "Cash" price, $4.09 for Credit.

Gas went down a couple of weeks ago, and even though $/barrel is going down, the price at the pump is not. It can go up due to weather, but the going down doesn't seem to be as speedy!

We are in the mountains of NC, so it is a little higher here.
