Washington state average today, 3.429 for 87 octane. Diesel 3.079. We are only a few pennies behind California for ave. price. Some of our state legislators are investigating price fixing? But the thing that confuses me is why is Diesel all the sudden cheaper than gas. Diesel has been 20 to as much as 60 cents a gallon more than gas here in Washington for a number of years now. The tax on diesel is 8 cents more a gallon too? My retired neighbors just came from the coast where they spent a week on the beach. 3.999 a gallon there. We have several refineries just north of Seattle too? I have a friend of who is a Chevron distributor and He told me one reason the fuel prices in the northwest are higher than most of the country is because "Most of the curd is from the pipeline in Alaska, and its high quality and high priced?" Ya sure....and last week Exxon/Mobil made another record breaking 31 billion profit for the quarter. I hope the stock holders are getting some of it.

Exxon/Mobile Profits
They are only making about 8-10% profit. Our govt is making a way higher percentage than that and have done nothing to earn it. (BTW, what's the govt doing with all those gas taxes? Helping with the energy needs of the nation or giving govt programs to those that can keep them in office and incredible retirement benefits?)
You also have to remember that Exxon/Mobile make well over 50% of their revenue overseas too.
Have you been to China lately? I have, and the growth over there is staggering. Many still ride bicycles but more and more are driving. I may be wrong in the following stat but I've heard they're building 10 miles of roads a day.
Exxon/Mobile are just selling a ton of product that's used worldwide and no current substitute that is as efficient to produce and use.
Sorry, I'll climb back down off my high horse.
Time to get back out to the trailer to finish getting her ready for our maiden voyage tomorrow.

The feds collect 18 cents gallon tax. Each state has it own tax rate. The price of fuel is not because we are overtaxed..(we may be overtaxed). So your telling me that kind of profit is OK? Where does it stop? You don't want the wealth spread around? Those profit numbers are extreme from years past. They are not must an increase....they are as much as 30 to 50% increase from the past few years when oil companies were making record profits then. They are not hurting for exploration money. I don't really understand where your comming from? Those profits are not nescessary to stability of the companys. I am not just picking on Exxon/Mobil. All the oil company are making record profits. I listened to an X comgressman a while back explaining how the price of gas is set. According to HIM it has very little to do with supply and demand. It is set buy futures investors on Wall Street. He gave a very detailed explanation of how its done. It is profitering to the extreme. This was a long time congressman who used to be an executive for Texaco before His political carreir. HOW much profit is enough? Monopolies have been broken up for the last century in this country some of it was good some was not. But the reason they were broken up is because too few controlled too much. Rockefeller and what is now Chevron (standard oil) once controlled 95 percent of the worlds energy. They were the first to drill in Saudi Arabia. They were broken up because its not a good thing for So few to have so much controll.

Here is the current tax rate for motor fuel just FYI.
The range in state taxes is 26 Cents in Alaska to 61 cents a gallon in NY. The difference in gas tax from the highest to the lowest (EXCULDING Alaska is approx. 25 cents a gallon. This is NOT a good reason that gas in ARK. is 2.92 in Arkansas and 3.49 in Califoria.

You have made your case but I am afraid the masses will never here you. The public has been told for so long that it is the oil companies and or the middle east is the problem. These are entities that they can relate to and so these are the entities they will focus on.
Your Congressman is dead on and the reason I support his case is the simple fact that my daughter works for one of the biggest oil traders in the world and no he is not in Texas. As long as futures trading is left unrestricted you will have manulations whether it be in California electric by Enron, silver by the Hunt brothers, copper ever 2 or 3 years, or currently gasoline.
It cost Exon somthing like $5.00 a barrel to bring up a barrel of oil from many of thier reserves. Yes there are oils that cost more to bring to the surface, but the costlier new oils only increase the margin on older reserves and if it is anthing Exxon has it is older reserves. Anyone could make money with that cost structure if traders are bidding the price up to $65.00 a barrel and bidding the futures on gasoline ever way beyond normal margins.

$3.159 for regular gas
$2.679 for diesel I don't know why I'm grinning, but I've been filling my diesel truck for ages with fuel that cost more than regular gas by.20-.40 cents.
