The reason gas prices are up is OPEC and Russia want it so, though a dispute between the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia has made it worse and is a good excuse for keeping voices up. Natural gas prices are up 50% in the past month, but I don't know why—sometimes they follow oil prices, but shouldn't.

In the general Chicago area, it seems to average $3.49/gallon - more in the city itself. We go to Wisconsin a couple of times a week (working on a house - that's where the Airstream is, doing bathroom and occasional bedroom duty), and $2.99 is the norm there.

Well the ever increasing fuel prices assure are not hurting car sales. There are no - zero - new cars on the largest Toyota dealer’s lots here in Phoenix and Bloomington Indiana. The chip shortage has made used car lots out of most “new” car dealerships. Thus few to no new cars for the foreseeable future. So the mileage ratings are currently a non-issue as only a few cars can be seen on the car lots

The mega dealerships monstrous overhead continues so it will be interesting to see which ones survive. Look for labor rates to sky rocket to create dealer cash flow.

We drive what we have regardless of fuel prices as this fuel demand is in-elastic which means price is not a controller. People have to get to work. So the oil companies are now recovering their lost profits from no one driving much during COVID.

Hopefully folks will bcome aware of the “hidden” costs of the EV rush. Where actually that electricity is generated and what fuel was used in the process. All the trace minerals to create these fancy batteries are super expensive and are probably a finite resource.

So drive as little as you possibly can to save funds for the other in-elastic items we face like food and electricity in the home….

Large open areas on dealer lots (both cars and RVs) may not reduce profits that much. They may make more on repairs than they make on car sales. The longer people keep cars, the more repairs needed. In recent years dealers have made efforts to attract business by extending hours, having lots of discounts and treating people better.

A bigger threat is that electric cars need fewer repairs. As renewable energy sources increase, the source of electricity for charging changes with it. Owning a gas station may become a bad investment.

I saw those prices but for cash instead of credit card. Years ago, the surcharge we see today was not permitted, same price for both credit or cash. Times have changed.

I guess since the printing presses are running full speed (not allowing the currency to have any basis) so there is an adequate supply of green backs floating around.

Ouch. I thought we were expensive at 1.36/l. Of course all my cars except my TV take premium at 1.54. Diesel here is still 1.27/l.

For US money that's about 4.60 per imperial gallon. For US gallon than works out to about 3.85 per gallon.
