If you are sick and tired of being sick and tired of fuel fear and fatigue, take a look at DRIVE ON WOOD. com. I am building a medium to large scale gassifier that I can run ANY gas or diesel engine on. This is a means of converting cellulose (wood) or biomass to Hydrogen gas. I am about 2 months from my first run with it. It has been proven that you can get 1.5 miles per pound of wood. This was used extensively during WWII and prior, during "Oil Shortages". It's not for everybody, for those than can make it work it is an attractive option to a gas pump.

Since the crude from Alberta can't get an ok to pipe it to the west coast of BC, they want to send it south through the US and ship it to other countries. They are also trying to expand a pipeline through the upper midwest to ship more tar sands crude—probably to ship it to Europe or elsewhere once they get it to the Great Lakes. More lawsuits by landowners in Nebraska have been filed since Keystone send notices to them threatening eminent domain actions against them—this allows them to renew the lawsuit that was dismissed by the Nebraska Supreme Court recently now that there is a active dispute. No matter what anyone else does, the lawsuits in Nebraska keep coming. If it ever gets built, all of 35 permanent jobs. Guess which two brothers who spend many millions to influence elections are heavily invested in tar sands oil and are behind the pipeline? It is not clear if they are so leveraged their fortunes may take a big hit if the pipeline never gets built and oil prices stay low for a while.

Some comments on Gene's post re Alberta oil sands crude. The push for the Keystone XL is to get the crude to the only refineries in North America that can process it; Canada has no refineries that can handle crude that heavy and since the oil companies have existing refinery capacity in the U.S. south they don't seem too eager to build more capacity at the extraction sites. I don't think they plan to ship the crude to other countries from southern U.S. ports - it is much more profitable to refine it and ship the refined fuel. The oil is now being shipped by rail - crude oil rail shipments have increased exponentially over the last few years https://www.aar.org/Pages/Crude-Oil-Rail-Traffic.aspx so even if Keystone isn't built the oil companies will get the oil to market. One problem with rail is that the rail lines tend to run through the center of towns - it was a runaway train loaded with Bakken crude from North Dakota that destroyed the town center in Lac Magantic ,Quebec in 2013, 47 dead in that disaster. It's a complex issue - our western society requires a lot of energy to keep us in the style to which we have become accustomed and consequently there is a lot of money to be made in the energy industry. The lure of profit can generate all sorts of innovative end-runs around existing legislation and safety standards - all perfectly legal of course.

$1.93 for regular at Costco south of Portland. Needed 3/4 tank, total just over $30, lowest for a load of gas in recent memory.

There are refineries in La. that can refine the Alberta crude. Presently they refine Venezuelan crude, but no one is sure that is a reliable source since the government there has not maintained the fields properly. In addition, they are trying to sell Cities Service, their retailer, and may not send crude to the US anymore. If they cannot sell Cities Service, and they haven't been able to sell it for the years it has been on the market, those refineries won't need Alberta oil. Then it will have to be shipped overseas, and if they do refine it, the gasoline will most likely be.

Still $1.67 in Grand Jct., but some other stations have started going up.
