We were camping in Australia. We woke up to kangaroos.
Also cockatoos an macaws.

In Canada a few big horn sheep walked though.

W. yellowstone

This summer at W Yellowstone we had a repeat visit by a grizzly bear in our site. The first nite he raided our neighbors table and visited my husband’s tent. That evening every authority in the area hazed him at our campsite after he laid and watched me while licking his paws for a half hour. He came back that night toppling tents and climbing cars, ultimately the campground was evacuated and he was trapped and taken to a reserve.

Alpacas in Texas

You can find a bunch of alpacas at Wagon Master RV Park in Sanger, TX, just north of Denton, TX. They are well mannered and the campers and their children are welcome to help at feeding time. I understand that they have special events when the alpacas are sheared.

Big Bend

Tentcamped at Big Bend NP many years ago in late fall, campground was empty except for us. Our tent was set up and we were eating dinner at the picnic table when a skunk walked by the table. We froze and waited until he went on his way. Then another, and another and another all evening long. With a whole empty campground to choose from, we had apparently chosen to camp on a skunk highway. As tent campers traveling in an MGB/GT, a skunking of our equipment would have been a disaster. We were on our way to a new job posting in CA.

Gee, I'm glad to know about this location and arachnids--I will avoid it like the plague! Ugh!!

Hi

A while back (when we camped in tents ...) we pulled into a campsite up in Jasper. As we did, they advised us of the normal "schedule" of mommy bear and her cubs. They would come down the main trail each day around 10 to 11 AM. As long as you didn't have food or trash out you didn't get bothered ...

Two summers ago doing a volunteer gig in Northern California, I got up before dawn to snag a shower at the shower building and stepped my foot and lower leg under the warm belly of some large and furry animal.

Whatever it was didn’t take a chunk out of me, but simply moved away, and without a flashlight I never knew what it was.

Perhaps just as well, as later that day a mountain lion was spotted on a high perch a half mile or so away.

Always carry a flashlight when moving about in the dark.

While cows are not unusual animals, I think they are at a campground! These cows are hanging out in a tent site at Patagonia Lake State Park in Arizona. Later they were wandering through the campground and came right by our Airstream.

A cow ended the tent-camping phase of our life. We were in a CG on top of Grand Mesa in Colorado in September. There was bear scat on the trail just outside the campground. In the middle of the night, something large and hungry tried to knock down our tent with us in it. We spent the rest of the night in our car. No more tent camping for us.

The next morning a neighbor said, "did you see those cows that came through last night?". The tracks left behind did look like cow, not bear.
