Western loop

We are planning a western loop trip from Western Kentucky to Mt Rushmore to Montana and south into Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico and probably back the southern route thru Texas Arkansas. We have approximately 3 weeks and no firm agenda. Leaving approximately middle of June. We have a recently purchased 2011 25ft international. We are using a 2014 Chevrolet 1500 6.0 liter, We have had a 16ft bambi for 3 years prior and our longest trip has been 4 days.
Any suggestions, routes, side trips or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well, an admirable goal, but three weeks? You would have to average a minimum of 230 miles a day, with no time for stopping and spending a day or two at Yellowstone or Cody or Sturgis, or Mt. Rushmore or wherever. You might consider just South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming for your entire three weeks. Make a beeline for South Dakota (1,200 miles from Louisville) in, say, three days while boondocking in Walmarts and such. Spend three days in the area - one to recuperate, one to sightsee, one to prepare for the next leg. On to Yellowstone (500 miles) in two days, and spend the majority of your time there.
Take the last entire week to mosey on back home.
It's the journey, not the destination. My humble opinion.

Montana Saphire hunting

Near Phillipsburg Montana. We are hoping to get there this summer. Have heard about it from friend who enjoyed it.

That does seem like a bunch of road time...
Also, much of that trip will be in "Satan's underpants hot" areas that time of year.
I'd stick to the north...

Thanks for the feedback, I may shorten my trip to include more time in each spot. I'm anxious to get on the road.

I would recommend stopping at the Little Bighorn battleground.
Where in Western Kentucky are you starting from? I once called Madisonville home.

... a few thoughts from frequent campers to the The West. You have two trips planned as one, not good. The "northern" trip is much fun, and can include the Dakotas, Yellowstone, Tetons, and even Glacier if you add a day or three. The "southern" trip is Arches, Brice, Zion, Canyonlands, Grand Staircase, etc. with lots of time in each park. Best done in Spring or Fall while school is in session.

I couldn’t agree more with the comments re too many miles, too many site, too little time to see anything other than in a “drive by” mode! I realize there is a desire to see it all but would suggest one following your general plan would be swing far more road rather than sights. Complicating things is the often limited availability of campsites in National Parks, especially in June. We are all different, in what we want with our Airstream, but I would encourage you to “see less and enjoy more”.
