Week in FL.
Returned yesterday from an 1800 mile RT from NC to Nokomis, FL. GREAT trip and a welcome break from the cold. Missed the snow at home and shook my head in wonderment at the absurd doings the poor folks in Atlanta coped with. Highly recommend the Royal Coachman resort. Very friendly folks, great sites, and only a few minutes from the "Legacy Trail" -- a terrific pave over of RR tracks that gives you unlimited biking. Oh, the BG's (Basset Girls), Rhoda and Nola, looked for shade for afternoon naps.

We here in Nokomis would like to continue the secret of the best kept secret place in FL. This is definitely Paradise. That's why my wife and I moved here from CT. Beaches, restaurants, RV parks and State parks, you name it we got. Make yourself at home we love it!

John, the new 2500 is AWESOME! The huge diesel just plugs along, no strain, no pain....and I love the exhaust brake as well. I installed a 37 galling aux. diesel tank in the truck bed. At the flick of a switch on my console I can dump fuel into my main tank.
Bill, you and Janice DO live in a wonderful place. This was my second visit, and what I like most is how friendly everyone is, and the small town atmosphere. What I don't like is the traffic on 41....either going North toward Sarasota or South .... it's chock-a-block with traffic. Reminded me of living in San Diego ... you have a freeway (with stoplights). I guess there's always a price to pay for nice weather.

Barry, looking forward to seeing you and the "beast" at Alumalina. There will be numerous Mopar heads attending, could be grounds for some good campfire fodder.
We have been all over Fla, over the years, but never to Nokomis. It's on the bucket list now.

Just bought my 25ft airstream and spent a week ( 10 days) in Davenport Fl. Didn't do so good with the camper the toilet quit holding water and the shower pan cracked and leaked water into undercarriage. Other than that we had a good time. I lived in fla most of my life but never heard of nokomis, fla. The airstream is used but looked ok to travel in. I am now back home and repairing

We live in Sarasota and traffics a nightmare February 1st thru May because of all the Snow Birds. Best months are October and June. Snowbirds haven't made it down in October and the weather cools off a bit. In June is the same thing everyone's leaving as their afraid of the heat returning. Us locals have some of the nicest weather those two months and have the whole town to ourselves.

I visited the same park last year in December and the traffic wasn't nearly as intense. It looked to me as if most of the "snowbirds" who were parked at Royal Coachman were departing in mid-April. I would NOT let this inconvenience keep me from returning, Sally!

I agree, the aggravation of putting up with traffic and busy restaurants etc is just a small price to pay for visiting this beautiful part of the world, Sarasota and surrounding towns offers something for everyone

How long in advance do you need to make reservations at these parks in that area around sarasota, venice, etc.. We will be traveling to those areas in years to come, god willing, and ive been wondering about that.

IF you have some flexibility, you probably only need to have 2-3 weeks notice, but if you have very specific dates in mind then you'll want to plan further ahead. Some of the folks I met go there every year for 3-4 months and they book a year ahead. I'm not ready to do the snowbird routine.

Thanks BAB, ive read about several different spots down there and we are planning on clearing out of the cold in the years to come for a couple of the winter months anyway. Wife lynn has about 24 months till retirement but im already there and chomping at the bit. Ive spent a good deal of time vacationing in that area and have always enjoyed it. We bought our coach last summer and i have been getting it ready. Ive been reading as much as i can on different spots to check out and have been wondering about the whole reservations thing.

Like I said we spent ten days at Deer Creek campground on hwy 27 and I-4 before heading back home to Texas.
My wife has a brother that lives in Sarasota. I lived south of Miami in Perrine before getting married and moving to Texas
