Check out parking lots or storage facilities in West Falls Church, then take the Metro rail into downtown.
We have used a variation of the Church method several times, granted not in DC.
Weekday's their parking lots can be accomodating. Knock on the Church door offer a donation, you may be surprised.

Does anyone have any leads on lots where you can park a vehicle with a trailer in Washington DC? Not looking to camp, just looking for a surface lot where we can leave the rig for one long-day while in the area. Seems like a parking lot that accommodates buses would work, but I am finding it impossible to figure out online or from google maps.
Thanks for any help!
If you are a veteran, or able to get on a military post. Ft. McNair or Bowling AFB. Good luck.

To the best of my knowledge neither McNair, Myers or Bowling have rv facilities. Andrew does and possibly Belvoir. There is web site that you can go on to check.
I live in DC and I don't think tiny Ft McNair would allow an unattended RV to park on the base. You have a better chance at Bolling AFB just down the road from southeast DC. They have a huge long-term parking lot associated with their MAC terminal. If you're military and want to try this route, call the MAC terminal or visitor facility to check it out.
