Waco to Ft Stockton

Planning trip West first of January. Looking at US190 to avoid interstate. Anyone run that route recently? Recommendations? Ultimate destination is El Paso.
Regards

Hi Cispook

I think you will find US 190 a pleasant road to travel. Depending on where you begin US 190 (possibly off I35 near Belton, Texas heading West).. You will run into old US 190 now turned into I14 going through Killeen, Texas. This route will run next to the Fort Hood Military Base. Most all the road way is new within last 5 years. A few small towns Lights then open road to Lampass. Great place to REFUEL grab a meal/ snack. Watch road signs for directions some are very old. After Lampass lanes drop to two. Be very careful early morning/ evening drive lots of wildlife. Deer love to grass close to road edge. This is a beautiful drive. A lot of small towns down this road and I would plan extra time just to stop and explore (San Saba, Brady and Menard). I sorry but that as far as I can get you down the road. Check your cell provider for coverage there maybe some dead spots along the route. Oh and has you run near Brady those ranches you see are as large 50-100,000 acres. We wish you a pleasant and safe journey.

Thanks so much. Excellent detail of the area. I’ll post a follow up in January once we traveled the route.

We enjoyed traveling on US 190 - we found the majority of the road to be smooth and favorable to trailer pulling. Plenty of nice places to explore as described above by our fellow forum members. We pulled from Lampassas, Texas all the way to I 10 just below Van Horn.
Return trip we will reuse the route.
