We've been thinking about a two or three week trip on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
Ferry into Victoria then rambling up the east coast as far as Port Hardy.
Are there any good campground guides for the Island?
Have you done this trip before and what would you recommend?
Lou
I'd spend some time in and around Victoria, make sure I stopped in Chemainus, and also near Parksville. I've been up to Campbell River and Port Hardy, but prefer heading across the island at Parksville, through Port Alberni, to Long Beach (Pacific Rim National Park) between Tofino and Ucluelet. It is by far our favourite place on the island.

We spent about 10 days on the island several years ago. I don't remember the camp grounds as the old mind is weak. We did go up to Port Hardy back down to Coombs, Port Alberni and up to Tofino. We were there in September and had no problem finding a camp site. I do remember two wonderful older Scottish ladies who ran the clubhouse/café in Port Alice. It was pouring down rain and they made us sandwiches but only after bringing out the photo albums and proudly showing us the history of the area. Our Great Dane "Hager" was welcome and they provided him with a bone to chew while he lay on the floor next to our table. You could not imagine a better way to spend an afternoon.
On your way through Port Angeles stop and say Hi.

Hello,
We are visiting Tofino in September, and have reservations at Long Beach. If given a choice between Long Beach and Crystal Cove RV sites, which would you choose?
I am thinking we may split the stay up between the two, since they offer different experiences, I think.
Any comments would be appreciated,
We have been to Tofino many times staying at the Wick, but never camping.

Tofino
I'm in the early stages of planning for Tofino next June. Knowing the cost to travel on Washington state ferries tells me to expect a serious bill on BC Ferries. Open to suggestions/reviews of Tofino area accommodations.
