US Highway 84 (GA to AZ)

Starting to plan our Western trip leaving N. Atlanta in Mid-May with stops in TX, NM, AZ, S. CA, UT, then home to Cumming GA. A TX friend suggested I consider US 84 at least thru TX. since I hate the roads across Louisiana. Have any of you used US 84 in your travels, and would you recommend? We tow a 2018 Classic 33.

DeltaRon,
Hey did you get you trailer problems all fixed up on your second trip to JC.
I’ve not travel 84 out that far, only FERRIDAY, LA to Brewton, AL. It was not bad RD. I Mainly travel I40 for westward travel, but we are covering ground usually. Just did 2100 miles round trip over Thanksgiving and traveled 84 from Laurel MS to where it intersects I65 in south AL.

I travel US Hwy 84 all the time between Dothan Al and points to Brunswick GA. We usually drop out somewhere along I-10 depending upon traffic. Nice four lane divided for much of the way.

No, I haven't driven it in Texas.

US 84 does not extend into Arizona. It turns to the north in New Mexico and ends in Pagosa Springs, Colorado

Still battling issues. Currently having a major roof leak repaired. Several issues are in their 4th repair. Believe we’ve listed somewhere around 65 problems and still counting.

Think I knew that. My real concern is getting across LA in to TX. I-10 and I-20 are just terrible so trying to find a better route.

I've traveled US 84 between Valdosta and Texas a couple of times. Each time I comment "this road is smoother than the Interstates". I love taking the US highways while meandering around the country.

I was born and raised in East Texas on US-84. I have driven it routinely from Louisiana through Palestine, TX. Good road with lots of rolling hills in East Texas.

Suggest you get google maps and look at using US 82 and 287. I think US 82 is more direct east/west route. Good facilities and many 4 lane segments

We came from west coast earlier this year and in SC now. 84 has been good to us from the times that we have used it but I also feel 10 wasn’t as horrible as some say.

30 classic here and usually just drive slow and steady with the big rigs and we are fine.

I’ve towed 84 / 70 / 82 routes across Texas before, it is a welcome departure from the mundane interstate highway system.

IMHO they’re all pretty good roads that are interesting drives.
