I had heard that Airstream parks are only allowing members. No transients.

Can anyone confirm this?

I also read that some RV parks are only allowing long term stays of 30 days and longer.

One big change - rather than moving around frequently, I now intend to stay as long as possible in any location I can find adequate services (a potential upside to this - I think this method will work better for me when things normalize - it takes a while to figure stuff out when you arrive - so it's nice to have a month or more in a location to acclimate).

Anyway - I started in Sonoma, CA for a shakedown of a couple of weeks. Every reservation I had ended up cancelling on me. So I spent time calling park after park...ended up with 2 months in the Sedona AZ area. In June I am set up in Santa Fe. So far no serious issues - I can get everything I need, I have a place to stay - currently Zane Grey at Camp Verde AZ. Just very little to do - as is the case everywhere. So hiking with the dog, bike rides...hoping things lighten up in June.
What a time to start full timing! Talk about bad luck.

I full time. Was in Florida heading west to California to visit daughter for her graduation in May. As the virus got more serious, I found myself in Texas, where campgrounds were social distancing, park owners were leaving paperwork outside the office on a bench. Then one day, Walmart ran out of toilet paper, and the world went to hell. I realized I did not want to be stuck in Kalifornia, so dropped anchor in a great park outside Tucson, Arizona. It was a good choice. Camp is safe and secure, local community is thriving, gas ~$2.00 (surprised it is not less expensive). My grocery tab seems about $100 more than normal. Getting a lot of minor maintenance done. Waxing the truck and trailer is good therapy.

I made a trip to the storage place, Jacked her up and spun the wheels a bit, added some water to cell #1 and #4 on curb side battery. Drove home feeling a bit melancholy but hopeful for better trips coming soon.

The Airstream parks are independent entities, each with their own governing boards and policies. In addition state laws govern their policies. Some parks are currently closed because they have not opened for the season due to either their normal opening schedule or state closure of campgrounds due to coronavirus. Some parks are currently open open to both members and guests. Some parks have announced they are currently open only to members, or will initially be open only to members when they open for the season. In talking to the parks my understanding that those opening initially for members only will be frequently reevaluating the situation and once it is perceived they can return to normal operation they will. If you are interested in visiting an Airstream park in 2020 you should check its website, or call the park directly, to determine the current situation. As of today (April 14) Top of Georgia, Mystic Springs, and Minnesota are open to members and guests. TCPC and NTAC are open to members only. Virginia Highland Haven is opening May 1 to members only. Penn Woods and Jersey Shore are delaying opening and will announce opening plans at a later date. The Airstream Parks Facebook group page also reports current operation status for most of the Airstream parks.

The U.S. Forest Service has announced new fire restrictions and released more information about recreation site closures in the Rocky Mountain Region and due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Forest Service already announced a series of closures in Colorado but further clarified them this week. “Developed” recreation sites are temporarily closed, according to a news release, while dispersed camping, hiking and river activities are “allowed but discouraged.” Developed recreation sites include campgrounds, day-use areas, picnic areas and any other amenities involving a “constructed facility.” That includes potable water stations, fire rings and grills, picnic tables, restrooms and trash cans.

Parking facilities, trails and trailheads remain open. Dispersed camping essentially means backpacking on national forests or grasslands where there are no facilities or services.

The Rocky Mountain Region includes Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas and South Dakota. Colorado is home to 11 national forests and two national grasslands.

“While we know that going outside provides forest and grassland visitors needed space, exercise and satisfaction, we are taking the risks presented by COVID-19 seriously,” acting regional forester Jennifer Eberlien was quoted in the release. “We are providing some recreation opportunities where we can, while protecting and keeping employees, the public and our communities safe from the virus, as well as protecting and keeping communities and natural and cultural resources safe from unwanted human-caused wildfires.”

Igniting, building, maintaining and using fires is prohibited, including charcoal grills, barbecues, coal and wood-burning stoves and sheepherders stoves.

The U.S. Forest Service has asked users to:

Stay close to home to keep other communities safe
Observe the 6-foot social-distancing rule
Avoid crowding at parking lots, trails, scenic overlooks and other areas
Observe CDC precautions regarding the spread of COVID-19
Be prepared for limited or no services
Pack out trash and human waste

Full-Timers

We were away from “home” before the virus hit. We have been traveling full time for three years.

We finally got back to AIROSMITH, and have planned out the next month or so. Like many others, we plan longer stays to comply with stay at home orders.

We are traveling from Arizona to Colorado for schedule medical appointments mid-May.

We have found that many commercial parks are open, albeit with restrictions. Most are looking for you to be self-contained. Easy to do with full hookups. Some have closed bathhouses and laundry facilities. Reservations and check in are done online or by mail. Parks where we have reservations will receive mail.

We are trying to stay away from smaller communities, so as to reduce the impact of exposure, and tax limited medical resources.

We found that Campendium has up to date info, and a filter to look for campgrounds that have not been closed.

Safe travels everyone. Stay healthy.

Unless you must physically be in Colorado, might look into whether you can do your medical appointments via phone or telemed.

Lots of infection in and around the Denver area, in particular.
