Travelling to PEI and Nova Scotia

Travelling from eastern Ontario to PEI and Nova Scotia. Does anyone have campsite or Provincial Park recommendations along the way, via south shore of the St. Lawrence, through New Brunswick. And if anyone has some recommendations in PEI, and Nova Scotia, we would love to know.

Also what are the 'must see's', as we are really open right now, but would like to secure our campsites, since only drive throughs are an option at this early ownership stage.

We are new to the AS family, as we just got her late summer of last year. We are going to be ambitious and head out to the eastern provinces, we have about a month. Any help to us newbies would be appreciated

I would recommend checking out the "Hole in the Wall" campground on Grand Mannan. We loved it there last year despite really crappy weather, and we are making plans to visit again this spring.

The Allstays Camp & RV app, available for iOS and Android, is an excellent guide to campgrounds. We did a tour around Nova Scotia several years back, the Cabot Trail is stunning and highly recommended.





Just for some reassurance, the thought of having to back up our 34' trailer caused me a great deal of anxiety when we were in the planning/early ownership phase. I was surprised by how easy it turned out to be. Just take is slow and steady and you'll be mastering it in no time at all.

I usually go pretty quick between Ontario and Atlantic Canada but know a few spots along the way. Montreal South KOA is easy to get to now that the 30 is open all around Montreal on the South shore. It is also only 20 minutes from downtown Montreal. Next at Quebec City just west of the bridge to down town on the north side of the 20 there is another KOA that is handy for exploring Old Quebec. At Rivière du Loup ferry crossing to St. Simeon is a nice little camp ground. My next stop is usually at the Kiwanis Ocean Front Campground in St. Andrews which is really great since it is a ten minute walk from the heart of beautiful St Andrews, a must see when in New Brunswick. After New Brunswick, it depends on how deep into Nova Scotia you are going. The Blockhouse in Lunenburg is a great spot because again, walking distance to downtown Lunenburg, a designated World Heritage Site. When I am in the Halifax area, I stay at Shubie Campground in Dartmouth, 20 minutes from Downtown Halifax. There is a great campground near the ferry to PEI in Caribou Provincial Park. Best to go around the Cabot Trail counter clockwise. Mira River park near Fort Louisbourg is good. For a real adventure and to join a special club, the little park in Meat Cove is a must. For PEI I would recommend Jacque Cartier Prov Park on the west side of the Island and Red Point Prov Park on the east side of the Island. Both have pull thrus and you can make reservations. Day trips from those would allow you to experience the Island. For the center of the Island many people stay at the National Park in Cavendish or one of the many private campgrounds in the area; don't know which ones have pull thrus.
Enjoy your trip. The Provincial parks on PEI are great so don't hesitate in staying at any of them if they fit your schedule.
