"traveling" during "stay at home order"

Hey There,
We are about to purchase our very first airstream. We live in WA a little north of Seattle and the airstream is in Walla Walla, WA about 5 hours east of us. We were hoping to pick up the airstream (private seller) this Friday without coming into contact with anyone but the seller, boondock on the way home one night and be back the next day (Saturday). We are nervous about getting pulled over 1. because of the stay at home order and 2. because the trailer has expired tabs (since 2016). I have tried to research the rules about a trailer having expired tabs that you have just purchased but I can't find anything concrete. Has anyone had any issues on towing an airstream during the "stay at home" order, or any advice? Should we just wait?

Good question. If you're not at home when the stay at home order has been issued, are you allowed to travel home?

Doesn’t appear to apply here. The OP is at home and is considering making a non essential trip while under a statewide stay at home order. Penalties range up to arrest in WA for violating the order.

I would go ahead and go. After all you are not hurting anyone. The state patrol has better things to do than worry about an expired tag.

Columbus took a chance.

So it’s OK to break a law implemented for the public good if one doesn’t get caught. Got it.

It also looks like the worst we would get is a warning if we did get pulled over (for non essential travel). We have 15 days from yesterday to pick up the trailer and get the title showing our bank is lien holder before they jack the interest rate up to 29%, so I would consider it essential that avoid that

I think so! I think it would be essential to get home and then quarantine for 14 days

While getting home makes sense, heading out so as to create the situation whereby you then have to get home doesn’t.

Essential involves food and medical supplies in many places. Not sure that RV purchases fit that description. That is trying to be kind. I can’t imagine that they would qualify. Call your bank and tell them you have a delay and that you need a three or more month grace period.

For when you do go:

WA state laws turn out to be very similar to our laws just north of you. Towing with expired tags is an offence. What you require is called a trip permit. They are available for trailers and are designed to allow you to move a trailer without current tags.

Get an extension from the bank. Don’t travel right now if you can avoid it.

A stay at home order is just that. It is to prevent the spread of a disease that is killing people.

It doesn’t get much simpler than this.

Do you know if that’s something I can get without the physical title in hand? Do I need it before I pick up the trailer or am I supposed to go into the licensing office in Walla Walla after purchasing it?

See the link I provided. If that doesn’t answer your question there is a contact number there.

A lot of Kantians in this forum, I see. If you take the proper social distancing measures, I'm not sure why it would matter. You're more likely to get/give COVID-19 at the grocery store than a one-on-one transaction with a private seller.

So I live in a highly infected county, and because I don't feel anything (but not tested so could be a hidden carrier) you are welcoming me to come to your city and county to pump gas, sneeze, cough, buy groceries, touch everything in Home Depot, Walmart, Best Buy, Walgreens, etc.? Remember - no symptoms but could be a carrier as my job here had me driving through 4 counties and interacting with people there prior to layoff.
Just trying to understand the logic and reasoning being presented here.
