trailering on RT 14 Pourde Canyon out of Fort Collins

Hi,

Planning a trip to this area in June. Any issues trailering thru the canyon. I saw some tunnels thru rock area, are high/width an issue?

2500 Dodge Mega CaB 4x4 towing 25 Flying Cloud.

Thanks
Joe D

It is an amazingly beautiful area and I don't think you would have any clearance issues. I have done the entire canyon route three times, however always on motorcycle trips cross country. It is a popular rafting and canoeing river so try to travel on a weekday, especially that time of year. There is a forest service campground on the western end that is overlooking a lake. I have camped there but don't remember the name. Have a great trip.

You shouldn't have any issues at all as long as you heed the recommended speed signs. There are some pretty tight curves, but they'll give you fair warning. At the top, check out the moose center at Gould. North Park is a real western place yet.

The Pourde Canyon route up to the Peak to Peak Highway, Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park is the way to go when towing. It is less steep and curvy than the Boulder Canyon route yet still beautiful. Keep in mind that it can be cold up there at night in June...

I think Patricia is thinking of Big Thompson canyon (Highway 34).

Forgot to mention: if you travel the canyon on a weekend, especially at night, watch out for intoxicated/stoned drivers and pedestrians below and around the Mishawaka. It's a live music venue, and gets really popular in summer.
