Trail Ridge Road

We are heading to Rocky Mountain NP after Alumapalooza this year and plan to initially stay in the park at the Moraine Park CG.

Have any of you towed your rig over Trail Ridge Road to the other side? We think we might wander around a bit farther west before turning back for home.

You shouldn’t have a problem if you are used to mountain driving. Trail Ridge is steep with hairpins, but usually the traffic and people stopping to watch elk and such means you probably won’t be going very fast. What tow vehicle?

Agree, it was a fine drive and one that I would not hesitate to repeat. Watch the weather: we took the road in July and there was a light overnight snow fall before the morning we set out. This melted quickly in the sun but remained on shaded corners and demanded attention particularly on the descent. We were towing a 30 footer with a 1 ton diesel.

We did trail ridge road a few years ago. We were camped in Moraine when the huge rains hit and washed out both other exits. (Boulder and Ft Collins). It wasn’t any issue going up and down to get out. The same can be said about the pass heading south from Winter Park down to I-70. I was pulling our 23FB with a Tundra. The worst part of the trip was when we got out near the new Denver airport, I-70 was down to one lane due to flooding. Bit of a slowdown.
Just an FYI, we were in Moraine in September. The elk were coming up into the campsites and bugling in the morning. It was spectacular.

Thanks, folks. Got plenty of truck with our 3/4 Duramax pulling our 30' sig.

Should be a wonderful trip. Can't wait.

Just might want to verify condition of tv and trailer brakes — even though you shouldn’t need them much if driving sanely.
