Towing Mirrors for 2012 VW Touareg

Hey folks, new user here! My wife and I just took our 2012 16' International Serenity on its maiden voyage this past weekend. It was a short 30 minute drive to our campsite so I wasn't sure if I would need towing mirrors for our vehicle / trailer combo. Turns out the Touareg's mirrors aren't quite sufficient and I couldn't see behind us.
We stopped in at a Camping World and picked up some clip-on mirrors but the ratchets wouldn't fit around the stock mirror itself, they were a few inches too short (pretty sure it was these: https://www.campingworld.com/dual-he...id=tow-mirrors).
I've been having a heck of a time finding any towing mirrors that might fit a VW Touareg. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? Thanks!

Had these on my Cayenne, same as your Touareg and they worked great.

OK - TV is BMW X5. There is a specific mirror, but not available in USA, only in Europe. We have been towing since 2015 with the Aero 2s. They do work and the AERO 3s are better because the mirror area is larger.

However, the Hensley mirrors are best. After the first install, they are easy to attach and remove. The addition of the round wide angle mirrors helped increase the rear view capability and are worth the added cost. We held out a long time before buying these mirrors. In the Summer of 2019 we purchased a set. It did not take long to see that we were wrong to hold out. Order the Hensley mirrors. You will be happier in the long run. We used pool noodles to kill the air vibration noise. Those straps do hum. Some folks just twist the straps to stop the hum.

Good luck with your tow. Hope to see you down the road with a smile. Pat

McKesh Tow Mirrors.
These are the best mirrors for use. They may look a little awkward, but you can see great with them. Get the convex spot for each side. Lets you see merging traffic. They are purchased on the Hensley Hitch website. Once you get the hang of it they go on in 2 minutes.

These are the same mirrors the poster above is also talking about.

Have a set from our Touareg

Hi Atlas CA,

Just saw your post - I still have the Dometic Milenco mirrors from our 2016 Touareg that I think would fit yours.

I ended up modifying the pads that clamp on the mirror housing for a better grip. Afterwards, they stayed put. They added enough to see around our 2018 FC23FB which was a narrow body compared to the full-size Airstreams.

I’ll shoot you an email as well. They’re just sitting on the shelf if you want them.

Glad your first trip was successful!
Jeff

We had used the Mckesh mirrors till we noticed the strap will leave rub marks on the car door. They were excellent mirrors other than that.
We ended up using the Repusal mirrors and are totally pleased with the results. Easy to install, easy to remove but solid.

Ships from the Nederland I believe but delivery is very quick.

I use them on our Touareg.

German vehicle - German mirrors

Take a look on the UK or German sites for the EMUK mirrors. Made especially for the European vehicles. I have them for my X5d, and can tell you they are rock solid and easy as can be to install.

Search for EMUK Caravanspiegel and you'll find several options. A bit more complicated that going to Camping World, but well worth the effort.

I just finished a 7 month long trip with our 2015 Vw Touareg and 2008 20’ Safari. We used the Dometic Milenco Mirrors and I loved them. One did fall off on the highway (lost) during a very gusty day [emoji20]. I must not have tightened it quite enough. They are great mirrors but definitely make sure they are on nice and tight. I always tried to remember to snug them up during rest breaks.

My Dakota did not accept any aftermarket slip on mirrors in 2003
I used the McKesh style for 15 years before the ratchet wheels broke
I am now using the Dometic mirrors. They work well but you need to keep checking the clamps as the plastic and rubber mount relax overtime. My friend lost two in transit across the continent

Yes! I had to stuff the straps to stop the vibration from the air flow, but I never had any marks from the rubber pads

I had semi trucks blow my Dometic mirrors in on me, twice! Never came off, just make sure they're nice a tight.

I have a 2015 Touareg pulling a 25FB and I use the Milenco mirrors as well. I clamp them onto the top edge of the mirror housing instead of the bottom. On the bottom there is a rib... likely for air flow... that prevents a solid attachment surface which makes it easier for them to loosen or shift. I am happy with the mirrors.

We have a 2014 Touareg with close to 50,000 miles of towing. We use these:

McKesh mirrors would not fit my 2015 Touareg. Not enough clearance between the door gasket and glass to allow the bracket to slide in. I now have Milenco mirrors.
