Too hot but had a good time
Well after two years of work, we took the "yot" out. We were having such fun we didn't want to come back to Chicago. The first trip was a poker tournment in Sloan Iowa. We got to set up camp for three day's. Everything worked fine. Wow, I cooked and cleaned and it's better than home.
We were to go to the International rally in Rapid City. We got within 80 miles of Rapid and there we set. We were to stop in at a friends place for a cermony, and head out, Thursday morning, but we stayed for another day, then it got hot. 110 in Interior S.D. It was a balmy 105 in the trailor. With the windows open and the sun being reflected off the rig, we actually were comfortable. Then we heard of the fire's in Deadwood and with no air-conditioning, we decided to head back to Chicago on Sunday. I had always dreamed of going to an A/S rally, but there is always next year.
With the two trips we have taken in June, we have become confident and look forward to many years with the "Yot."

We were planning to go to Rapid City this year for our first International rally, but a family wedding came up at the same time & we couldn't go. I guess we were lucky that we didn't go. After reading your input & another one where they said it was really hot, about a inch of dust every where & they said the diesel fumes where terrible & they had a Ford PSD. They left & went to a regular camp ground so they could run the air conditioner. I guess I'll start planning on next year.

Rapid City
At least they didn't run into what I ran into two years ago at a rally in Rapid City. I had a TrailManor then and the national TrailManor rally was held in Rapid City.
I woke up at about midnight thinking someone was beating on the trailer with a baseball bat. It was 2 1/2" hail. All I could do was huddle under the covers and hope the windows didn't come in. I was lucky in that I had only $8000 damage to the trailer and $2500 to the truck. A lot of the trailers were totalled. All my glass and vent covers survived, but trailers all around me had their vent covers shattered and I counted 26 broken truck windshields. I had to take the trailer back to the factory for new roof sections.
I'll take heat and dust anytime.

Insurance
The insurance paid every cent except the $100 deductable except that I had to take the trailer to the factory on my own dollar to have the entire roof replaced. I did have to pay to get the trailer back to the factory

Rapid City
I exchanged email with some folks from our Chapter and most of them stay at private campgrounds near the rally site. One did stay but he had a motor home and ran the generator during the day. They opened up at night when it cooled off.
Apparently the private campgrounds are already filling up for Vermont next year. The folks who reserved at the private grounds for next year told me that full hookup sites are already booked.

Yea Chris,
The central U.S. is pretty much the breadbasket of the nation. But with the great climes for growing all that food, we also get the clash of tropical moisture and Canadian air. When that happens you can get everything from gentle rains to tornados and hail. Click on the photo button below and then the "click here line" to see some of the damage to an Airstream that softball sized hail can cause.

Probably too early yet since they just completed this year's rally a little over a week ago. Somone else may have more info. Eventually it will be posted on the WBCCI site.

Ooops !!!!!!....
Jack.
Good Morning to you and ALL...Greetings from the U K .
Now Jack...I looked at your fotos, and saw the damage, you said the word SOFT-HAIL, now I would have thought by the state of your van you been parked next to a training ground for BASEBALL or something, I guess it gives the A/S a little charactor
but still sad to see, but I guess it's a good talking point, expensive one I know, but we can't do a thing about the weather, last night over here we had rain teeming down, saved me a job of having to wash my car this morning, that's how HARD it rained...still it seems to have cleaned the air a lot, an saves on me watering the garden too, so in a way nature aint all that bad,
You have a good day to day, enjoy it...cheers.
...Chris.....
