Tips for traveling with a fussy woman
I see someone started a thread on tips for traveling with a large dog. I'm not sufferin from that issue but I could use some help from my buds on how they keep their ears from being chewed off when stuck in a truck for hours while pulling the trailer.

Just suck it up and pull over when she sees that "shop".

A box of milk duds might keep her busy for a while - especially if she is shy a few teeth

I fixed my problem with that, left her at a WalMart in San Jose, California and never looked back.

Depends. Would you prefer to be "Right", or would you rather be "Happy"?

I predict that this thread will surpass the "Sex in an Airstream" record for creating a problem!
Or has that ship sailed?

Diversion is the key. Give her a project. Promote her to the critical position of Navigator. Tell her the GPS went south, you're losing your sense of direction, and give her a clipboard, pencil, and a stack of old AAA maps. It's either that, or have a baby.

Teach her to hitch up and tow the trailer. Yes seriously. She'll be so nervous the first few times I guarantee "white lipped silence". When she does start talking it will be to ask for practical guidance to get into gas stations, etc. When she gets really good, you can fall asleep.
Point out that you want her to be able to continue enjoying the Airstream even if you're not there - or if you're unable to drive at some point.
Make the learning/teaching process "special". Do some practical adaptive changes to help her manage the heavy and dirty parts. I have a Reese Dual Cam hitch - and that wretched thing must weigh 35 lbs. I used to use a strap that went over one shoulder to pick it up and maneuver it into the receiver but I recently bought a tool bag with a long strap. In addition to making it easier to lift and control the hitch, this bag keeps the tow vehicle cleaner as the normal road crud stays inside the bag, and it's organized with ball lube, wipedown cloths, ball cover and all of the pins that secure the various components in one place. Snapping up the weight bars is usually a non-issue but it can be painful if you have a sore back. I mislaid the tool (pipe) that is used to put tension on the bars and almost by accident I decided to use the "wrong" end of my biggest crescent wrench (the hole it hangs up by). Because the angle is off 90 degrees from the bar, you simply push sideways against it to tighten the chains (leaning vs straining). A lot easier than straining to lift the chains and engage the cams.
If you've always been to macho to buy a backup camera - getting one "just for my wife's convenience" will make her feel special. The checkoff list nicely laminated is a great idea too.
You could even get her a shop apron to keep from getting rust and lubricants all over herself.

Wow, Paula, those are some excellent suggestions. Why do I feel like getting her the apron would be the only thing that would fly?

Trade in the Airstream for one of these. Man in front; woman in back. Better yet, woman in front; man in back so wife can stop where and when she darn well pleases.
Case closed.

I was traveling on business with a fussy woman co-worker, and somehow I unfairly ended up doing all the driving. So, when she said she was going to take a nap, I replied that it sounded like a good idea, and I'd take one as well. I then proceeded to close my right eye, and drove using just the vision in my left eye for about ten miles, being very careful never to look at her or otherwise let her know that I had one eye still open. Though I kept it between the white lines and within the speed limit and never had a problem, she was so scared out of her wits that she finally shook my shoulder to wake me up, and insisted on driving the rest of the way.
Not only has she never shared a vehicle with me ever since, she hasn't spoken to me, either.
I don't understand why she had a problem. Here in the Big Easy, where drinking and driving is so endemic that they have drive-through daiquiri shops (really!), everyone knows that you can't get double vision if you drive with one eye closed, no matter how much you've had to drink. Since I was stony sober when I tried this, it was no problem at all!
