Hello 'Streamers

Wanted to Query the crew for your Preferences/Experiences with and in Camp Sites near Greune (sp?), Tx and New Braunfels, TX for floating down the Guadalupe River. I am behind the curve but looking at visiting over the 4th of July. Your feedback is Greatly Appreciated!

For the Solar Eclipse I stayed at FIMCO near New Braunfels. Nice place but VERY expensive.

Everything in the path of the eclipse was expensive, for those several days.

Make sure your AC is working well. I'm a native Texan, and every summer I have the chance I spend somewhere else. Winter here is GREAT though.

Places near the Guadalupe

Mystic Quarry is nice... it's near the aforementioned Camp Fimfo, closer to Canyon Lake than New Braunfels. I don't know how near either of them is to popular tubing areas.

Another right on the Guadalupe that I've heard good reviews from the pet-less about is Lazy L&L but I'll never spend money there because they don't allow pets.

Something you may consider is establishing a home base near there and commuting. Guadalupe River State Park is about 30 miles from New Braunfels. It also has tubing. If you’re traveling east from Ca, you may consider a stay over at South Llano State Park outside of Junction, Tx. We were there last week, along with a half dozen other Airstreams including a Hawley Bowlus. The river was perfect for an hour long tube venture. Good luck

We’ve stayed at the Rio Guadalupe Resort for the last 3 years (in the winter months). It’s small, has trees and it’s right on the Guadalupe. It’s on River Rd just outside Sattler. I believe they rent tubes too. Not sure about summer prices.

I wintered Oct 2023 to Feb 2024 at Camp FIMFO Hill Country. Wow, this place is huge with a pool (and swim up bar), water playground and water slides, mini golf, alphine coaster, jumping pillows, pickle ball, and more (water features were closed for winter ). The resort also has a private launch area for Guadalupe River and is next door to Whitewater Amphitheater where popular singers perform.

I think you mean Fimfo? In the off season their monthly rate is around $700/mo. If you stay for a week or more, you're better off going monthly.

During the summer, I wouldn't recommend it unless you want to spend a ton and be surrounded by families. If you're taking the fam though, it's a great place as there's lots to do.

15 to 20 miles north of New
Braunfels on the south side of San Marcos is a 2 year old park, Schatziland. We hosted a rally there last year, pool, pickleball, volleyball and more. Lots to do in the greater area, some great food as well. Gruene is the proper spelling, totally overrun on the weekends, but the Gristmill Restaurant is good if you can get in.

I'm terribly sorry for misspelling FIMFEAUX. Please excuse my slip.

Rio Guadalupe Resort

I would second the Rio Guadalupe Resort. We were just there last week to see Willie and Robert Earl play a mile away at Whitewater Amphitheater, which is a great sport to see a band if you can make it. As said above, they can help if you want to tube from/to there or you can just soak in the 2’ river at the resort.

I fish the Guad during the part of the year that the water is too cold for tubers. I like the Rio Guadalupe resort. It is an easy in/out for tubers and there is a shuttle service. It’s a pretty rowdy place on the 4th.

Canyon lake COE

We just left potters Creek campground, part of the Canyon Lake COE complex. It was very nice. Site 82, very inexpensive, water and electricity, lots of availability right down the street from the river. (Maybe 3 miles to the nearest tubing place)
