The physics of fishtailing: short video

This short video offers a simple but dramatic look at the way trailer stability is affected by proper weight distribution.

A dozen years ago I needed this video before picking up the Streamline I bought on impulse from Ebay in my Volvo station wagon. Overloaded the back to minimize tongue weight, ended up wagging across all lanes of the 101 freeway as traffic miraculously parted. Managed to not jackknife and got pulled over safely that time!

Notice how small of an input is needed to start the fishtailing of an incorrectly loaded trailer!
