thanks
we think it will do just fine.
it is a house owned…still by the original family…remodeled extensively and a pretty nice location…right on the waterfront….
i can walk out my front door and be in the water…in seconds…
in an area called Westsound…..
close to the ferry terminal….
close to Eastsound…….
can't wait to go sailing

well...it worked..until it didn't
Housing on the island...is ...to say the least....a hoot
we have had contacts on two houses now,.....
the latest...the sellers....had a sucker on the hook...agreed to pay w a y over on the house and then ...wanted a little more....
and we bailed
housing...esp on this island is scarce....old...and overpriced.....
looked at another today...put some paper on it....wait to get on the roller coaster...
tryin ta get to heaven...before they close the door

i guess that is right
i guess it's a good thing....
housing is really different...scarce....overpriced.......
but people flock here anyway.....most don't get it ....and are just the tourists who come here for the beauty that is unsurpassed on Orcas...
it is an island state park......
unimaginable and un comprehendible to...the likes of gpt......and others like him that come here screw up the place and then turn tail and leave....
most folks, like gpt...., for instance go to friday harbor and think that is the san juans.....it's just like seattle or any other place on the MAINLAND...OR STRANGE LAND AS WE CALL IT.
orcas......orcas....orcas........
the islanders, here on orcas, let us in...and then they locked the gate....no more immigrants allowed.....
we got plenty of money ....and have enough sense to have vacated the the strip mall that america has become

so you show up from down south and know everything there is to know about the San Juan's and the folks who chose to call the PNW home for decades, or a life time. only a blow hard from TX could be so stupid.

gpt is the only one that seems to know everything...
i told him he was not invited.....on my adventure.....
first he is the spelling professor......
and then he insults everyone in the san juans...
and he still runs his mouth...
but he chooses to tag along.....
is there an ignore button?????

Seattle is home to hundreds if not thousands of millenial millionaires with a few billionaires thrown in. these young folks need some place to park their bucks and the San Juan's, for some years now, have been a favorite place. common knowledge and easily obtained information for anyone willing to do their homework in advance. the old timers on the islands know full well, they can ask any price they choose and they will get it, eventually.
but i suppose someone must have thought that the PNW was populated with a bunch of tree huggin' greenie hicks, rude awakening i'd say. money talks up this way just as it does in TX. running your mouth just demonstrates your ignorance to reality here in the PNW no matter how frustrated you may be or how much sand you kick my way.

I love the San Juans! Each Island has its own personality. Back in the early seventies there was a big party held on Orcas called the Orcas Orgasm, great party when I was young. We all camped on someones property and bands played at someone elses house. There was always a big turn out.
Another time on Orcas some friends and myself had hiked up Mt Constitution around Easter weekend. We planned on sleeping at a clearing just below the summit with wonderful views. We had not checked the weather and a BIG! wind storm hit. We decided to go down to Moran Park for shelter. We hiked through the woods in the dark with no light. We did get to a picnic shelter and figured we would hold up there because of the intense winds. A ranger had spotted us and told us long haired hippies we could not stay there. We said OK and ended up staying anyway because of all the windfall from the trees. We took shelter under picnic tables just for cover. We found out later a couple had been killed on another Island that night by a falling tree that crushed them in their tent. We had parked the car at Anacortes and hitchhiked around Orcas and on Easter we went to leave and were stuck no ferry service because of the still heavy winds. An extra day on Orcas no problem.
I have more so many good memories from the San Juans. I love all the islands, and I love Friday Harbor. Since I was 12 I've always thought about moving to the San Juans. Now I'm 60 and not sure I will ever live there, but The San Juans are truly a treasure.
Keep us informed on your new home and the Island adventures. If you get a chance take a week and explore the gulf Islands in Canada. They are just a continuation of the San Juans only with wonderful friendly Canadians.

I'm loving your adventure Kingfisher! In 1986 I flew over the San Juans in a small plane on my way from Seattle to Vancouver, BC. It was beautiful looking down on the little island jewels, and I promised myself to get there one day. Still a goal of mine. I've been all around the mainland... Seattle, Anacortes, Olympic Park... Vancouver and Vancouver Island. Now that I have the Airstream, I really need to make that island trip happen. Reading about your experience is making me ache more for a visit.
Keep it up, and best of luck hunting for a home.

hey, thanks spenfolder
once settled.....i hope to fly over the san juans, as well as sail....to some of them....heck...we hope to be able to get the ......
whatever it takes to do some inter-island travel... at this point i do not want or need to leave orcas....
the house hunting has been an experience...always is...but the island is worlds different...well from texas, anyway...
we are learning with each house...we have had four under contract and just this evening the fourth one was accepted by the seller
THIS ONE IS GONNA WORK.....because ...we have learned.... ; hopefully.
this one really looks good....a specialized house (they all are)...but this is a really different shape and only one bedroom , with a loft..about 2000 sq ft....
has a guest house.... is serene and isolated,,,backs up to a 1500 acre preserve at the end of a dead end road.....
AND ACCESSIBLE PARKING FOR AT LEAST TWO AIRSTREAMS
i need crossed fingers....10 acres of paradise....closing march 2nd....gotta do this one....or leave the island.....not gonna happen......
this one has been waiting on us!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, a very unfortunate play call, I guess...or perhaps even more unfortunate execution of the necessary play.
I read an analysis that said the hawks would be in a "must pass" situation on the 3rd down if they ran on the 2nd down and didn't make it, because they were short of time-outs. If true, it could make sense to pass on the 2nd down instead of 3rd to keep things a little surprising for the Pats, while stopping the clock if the 2nd down pass was incomplete. Too bad the Seahawks were the ones got surprised.
Very sad, disappointed and a little mad - especially about the fisticuffs that erupted in the end-zone. That was some poor behavior in the closing moments. <sigh>
Ah well, how goes the house hunt?

Is it cheaper if you take your TV back to the mainland, pick up the squares and then bring them back to the island?
