The Airstream Really Creates a Buzz!

Ever since we brought her home on December 9 I've noticed that everyone is interested in Airstreams. Every one on our block came by at one time or another while I was outside to talk about the new trailer.

At the campground last week, lotsa people came by to ask questions. At every gas stop someone wants to ask me something about the Airstream. The last guy where we got gas was in an SOB MoHo and came and told me he wants to go back to an AS. He owned 2, then got a Moho thinking it would be better, now wants to go back to towing.

It is definitely a conversation starter, and an eye catcher! Makes me smile all the time!

Yep,

I store my A/S in a boat/rv storage yard. When the wife and I were in the trailer cleaning between trips we had a line of folks wanting a tour. Same at the parks when we camp.

Maybe AS needs to look into offering a new option;

One of those coin operated door locks you find on bathroom stalls at the bus station...

It would help with the monthly payment...

A few people in our neighborhood were surprised that our Airstream was new when we first parked it on our driveway; I guess that retro look really works. We were also pressed into giving tours and our immediate neighbor, an RV man himself, has been telling all his friends so they've been around to look, too. One person on the street took against the Airstream, he thought it was an eyesore compared to my immediate neighbor's white SOB. Some people have no taste at all!

Yeah. One of my neighbors said, "Boy, that one looks nice enough to be new." I said it is new, we just bought it. It's a 2012. Him: "You mean they're still making those things?"

It's one of the joys of ownership. Enjoy and welcome!
The guy with the MOHO reminds me of us. It only took a short time of listening to all the rattles and squeaks in a MOHO to get back to towing.

Still a mystery to some

We also were swarmed by neighbors when we brought our new used 25FB home. There were a couple of other things that happened that told us that everyone weren't into Airstreams.

In Washington you have to pay state sales tax on vehicle purchases even if you bought it out of state. When I sat down with the licensing agent she looked at the bill of sale and said, "Boy, this is going to be expensive!" I told her I was aware of the cost and asked her to get on with it. There was a line that asked for the color of the vehicle. She looked at me and asked me what color my Airstream was. I told her it didn't have a color, it was bare metal. She asked if "gray" would work. I told her to put down "silver."

A person driving by our house stopped and told me that she really liked these old retro trailers and asked me how hard it was to restore mine. She complimented me on all the work I had done to bring it back. "It looks like it could be new, if they were still making them" she said. I spent some time trying to bring her up to speed with all things Airstream.

If you treat the first ones that come to look badly, the rest stay away. Works for me. I bought mine because I like it, not to be part of a carnival act. jim

I should put a sign in the window - "YES they still make these!"

Reminds me of a funny story. I was stuck towing my AS at a wreck site in Idaho, no way to get around it, or even turn around. A very long delay, like 4 hours. The others, in cars were becoming "distressed" with no toilet facilities, and no way to be "discrete" about their needs. One guy finally asked if it would be possible to use my bathroom and that started the parade of trailer inspectors.... grin. I was glad I could help them out. Been there in other situations where I did not have my trailer.

Boy, These are Small Inside

Once, on a trip from NC, We were staying at Cochiti State Park, NM in our Safari 23', when a family from a neighboring campground queued up at our front step asking for a tour.
Three super-sized women heaved themselves up the stairs and into our Airstream only to discover they could barely turn around.
As they lumbered away, we heard them remark how small those things are once you get inside.
I was satisfied that the load limits on my trailer had been tested.

Can not help it if some folks have missed out on the finer things in life.

Try pulling a polished Vintage Airstream with a bright orange Street Rod and see how long it takes to get away from a gas station or rest stop.

Fun Stuff

You know this is one thing my wife and I don't like about the AS. I have been told, no more tours! especially in the mornings.
In Dec we had a block Christmas get together to meet our neighbors we dont know and all asked if we were the people that owned the Airstream. People notice.

I think it is the Shape--we had a Casita 16' and could never get out of the gas stations, rest areas or campgrounds without tours. The same is true for our Airsteam, but since it is so much bigger (31') I think some folks are intimidated to ask for a peek. We are still new to our AS (had her less than a year) so still enjoy showing her off.

yep, everywhere we go we even were blocked in by a women in DC that wanted a tour. beeping the horn acting like a crazy person and i was thinking what the heck is going on. She got out of her truck and said where did you get that? where can i find one? can i look inside. wow it's bigger than i thought. then of course we were on our way to FL and my husband who has no patience is like tour over gotta go!.but, every campground we go and every gas station, or tractor pull (yeah i know sounds corny!) they are like where did that come from. like some spaceship.i have to look around and make sure i'm not in area 51. so they do create alot of stir. and it does even make the family green with envy! we bought ours then my sister-in-law bought a home made one. like they say if you have one it's money in the bank!

Someone mentioned the "Squeeks and Rattles of a Motorhome"...

When I went to Kansa to pick up my 1984 Airstream 345 Motor home in 2010, the PO came to pick us up in a year old 25' Class C Tioga, and we drove 3 hours to see the Airstream.
After we had completed the deal, and set off for California in the Airstream, with no prompting, my buddy suddenly said..
"You know what, this thing is 26 years old, and has 75k miles on it, yet it feels better put together than that class C, rides better, and squeeks and rattles less!"
