Places To Visit
Kingfisher,
Great to see you guys are still traveling and not flooded out. We are not Hoosiers but have a few favorite sites in Indiana.
A little to the West of Evansville is Harmonie State Park close to New Harmony, In. New Harmony was started as a Utopian religious settlement similar to Shakers etc.
Due North of Henderson is Vincennes, In. Home of the George Rogers Clark National Memorial, the birthplace or Red Skelton and a lot of very nice architecture in the downtown area. Vincennes is located along route 50 and this is a great highway to work your way East on toward Jackson Center. The city of Vincennes has a nice RV park and marina along the Wabash river usually $10/night. Probably under water now but may be worth a call to the city to find out.
Abraham Lincoln's Boyhood National Memorial is located just North and East of Henderson near Santa Clause, Indiana.
Madison, Indiana is a quaint little river town with a lot of arts and crafts shops. Clifty Falls State Park has a great view of the Ohio River valley. The restaurant at the Lodge is pretty good but there are also many nice places in downtown to eat.
Hope this helps!!

Vincennes: George Rodgers Clark Memorial, President Harrison's House, Lincoln crossing the Wabash, historic old Vincennes. The George Rodgers Clark story is one of the great stories from the revolution. If you dont go to Vincennes dont even bother with the rest of the state, seriously. It is a historical visit par excellence, I second the comment about the campground on the river. If the campground is flooded out, there is a state park across the river maybe 20 miles or so into IL (Red Hill State Park).

If you get to Auburn a don't miss is the Auburn, Dusenberg and Cord Automobile museum. If you have any interest in old American classics this is the place for you. ENJOY

indiana route 145
from birdseye up to french lick...shows to be a very scenic drive but on what rand mcnalley refers to as "other road check local conditions" goes thru several state rec areas and a huge lake....really looks inviting....
anyone been through here recently???
thanks

Haven't been there for a few years, but I don't remember the roads around French Lick being bad. We used to go to the old hotel there (French Lick Springs) before the casino came in. Now they have gone and spent millions renovating the 2 historic hotels and have priced them way more than we are willing to pay. Patoka Lake is very nice

one more leg
Indiana is just a jewel. We left Versailles and headed north along indiana 101 and 1 . It is a very scenic drive with a couple of 6% grades through forested mountains along the whitewater river that winds its way up towards Brookville, a beautiful resort and playground for the folks in Cincinatti, Ohio which is only 30 some miles to the east.
Located there is Brookville resivour , the largest lake in indiana...Ambling toward our destination of Whitewater Memorial state park. Which is another beautiful indiana state park dedicated to all veterans.....It has a beautiful lake and many hiking trails and is quite accomodative for equistrains....

All the above are great suggestions.
Also for your consideration is the Indianapolis 500 Museum at the track in Speedway, IN (Indianapolis). Should you travels take you North, the RV Hall of Fame is in Elkhart (along with most of the trailer industry. A bit east of Elkhart is Shipshewana. They hold an auction there I think the first Thursday of the month (please check web for accuracy). Amish Acres is also in that area. I highly recommend Das Esen Haus for a meal. It is family style German/Amish food.

If you get very far north in Indiana, visit Shipshewanna and learn about Amish and old-world Mennonite life.
A very interesting Mennonite Museum, great food, a wonderful bulk foods store with very low prices, couple of campgrounds in the area.
Travel safe,
Maggie

Not sure how I missed your request, but your welcome to come to our Rally this weekend in Odon, IN. The heart of southern Indiana Amish country. We are staying at the Odon city park.
See Central Indiana Unit WBCCI » 2011 UPCOMING CIU RALLIES for more info

Stopping at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a must. They might have cars practicing and the museum is full of cool stuff. And, take your walking shoes as that place is HUGE!!

continuing the tour
I am just amazed at the beauty of Indiana. we arrived yesterday at Salamonie Lake SRA...a huge lake and a great campsite....
Salamonie is southwest of Fort Wayne about 30 miles...today we treked up to shipshewana via indiana route 5 through beautiful farmland, amish and menonite country...and made the return trip via indiana route 13...just beautiful country.
threating rain and all the farmers were about planting corn...trying to get it planted before the rain....just an idealyic site........

The Central Indiana Unit Rally (Odon, IN) is in Southwest Indiana. Unfortunately, that is more that 4 hours from where you are.
