I also have a son 8 and a daughter 4. We are in central Ms and are considering Disney World, Fort Wilderness, or Elksmont in the Smokey Mtns. Both are closer for you than me.

If Corpus Christi is within your travel limits, I recomend Padre Island National Seashore.

I guess it depends on what you're loking for. Ft. De Soto in St. Petersburg is one suggestion. A beautiful county park that is close to everything yet makes you feel as though you're away from everywhere. Great Biking, fishing...just beautiful.
Fort Wilderness is a Disney resort...lots more people, but a bunch of fun as well. You're camping, but you can visit the parks too.

Jellystone in the Smokies looks nice and has a lot of things for the young ones to do. You can check them out on their website! Hanna-Barbera.com - The Official Hanna-Barbera Destination.

I teach High School kids so I can tell you where not to go because they will be there doing all kinds of wild things. Stay away from Panama City. It will be out of control with to many high school kids.
I go every year in April with twelve guys fishing and boating in the Okefenokee swamp, Stephan Foster State Park. It has always been quiet and they have nice campgrounds. We have never had any problem renting boats and the area is beautiful. The only down side would be if the swamp levels haven't gotten higher. Last year they closed the trails for the boats because the water was so low. The other problem we have faced is no cell towers. In the past we have been limited to a pay phone to call home.

If you are looking for beaches, they are pretty good at Topsail Hill State Park in Florida between Destin and Panama City. No development on them, just dunes and water. And a great RV site to camp.
We camped at Veterans Memorial State Park in Cordele, GA last August. Lots of wildlife to view from Lake Blackshear, including all those friendly alligators. We could have stayed there a week no problem, assuming we had our kayaks and the weather was cooler.
Both sites have good facilities. We have no children. Just dogs.

Eye of the Storm
You really could go to St Andrews in Panama City, just don't leave the campground.
That is very easy to do too, as there are days of activities inside.
Bay beaches, Gulf beaches, Piers (gulf and bay), Jettys, Hiking trails, Deer at night, Boat launch is always entertaining, Museam, and its gated at night.

Our Springstream Rally is April 11 at the end of Spring Break week here. You could go to th NC Mountains, or Chattanooga ( Raccoon Mountain is fun) and then come to our rally.

If you look at the top of your browser, the title of the webpage shows up. On a tabbed browser, such as Safari, it also shows at the top of the tab. When you post a link on the forum, the title is the text that shows up, so that is the title of Jellysone’s webpage.

There is an "Airstream only" park in NW Florida if you are a member of the Wally's club. I can not recall it's name, but it costs around $10.00 a night to stay and is about 30 miles from the beaches at Destin and Ft. Walton Beach.
It ought to be affordable, away from the beer crazy hormone of college kids, and family friendly. Worth checking out.

Not to take anything away from Klattu's first suggestion, we have found all of the Florida State Parks to be excellent destinations. There is Fort Desoto County Park near St. Pete, Fort Wilderness at DisneyWorld is awesome.
Closer to you is the Okefenoki Swamp. But really, the best recommendation was alansd's recommendation to join the Springstream thing in North Georgia.
