Southern Coast of Lake Erie

Late this summer, we will be returning towards the east from North Dakota and heading towards the Finger Lakes of NY. One of the route options is to hit the southern coast of Lake Erie near Marblehead then continue east along the coast. Another option would be to curve around a little further south.

Looking for any suggestions and things to see/camp along the southern coast, or any wisdom about avoiding it.

Thanks!

The Great Lakes are something to see, if you haven't already.

I'm assuming you'll be heading east along the I80/90 corridor through Ohio and PA, NY...

Take US#2. (Toll free through Ohio)

There are wildlife refuges and state parks between Toledo and Cleveland along that route. As well as Ceder Point if that interests you. (Ceder point does have some of the fastest roller coasters on the planet)

Jackson Center is in between I80 and I70, so either route is going to be a detour to get there. It's neat though...

I've always had a mission to get from Toledo to Cleveland or from Cleveland to Buffalo, so I can't help you with places to camp along the way, sorry...

Maumee Bay State Park near Toledo is beautiful. Then there is Put-In-Bay and Cedar Point Amusement Park at Sandusky. Numerous others if you're going to stop and spend a few days.

These are great ideas, thanks. Throwing a detour to Jackson Center in, hopefully tours will re-open by late August.

JoeHTP,

I'll add Vermillion as a nice stop and it's maritime museum. http://touringohio.com/northwest/eri...me-museum.html

And if you're anywhere near Toledo maybe add a trip to Cpl. Max Klingers favorite Tony Packo's
https://www.tonypacko.com/

Enjoy the shoreline.

Maumee Bay SP

Agree on the Maumee Bay SP recommendation. Very beutiful state park and resort. It is about a 15 min drive to Toledo.

Nearby in Toledo is the Great Lakes Ship museum, and the Libbey glass museum which are worth seeing. There are at least 3 presidential museums along the way, Harding, Garfield and Mckinley, Canton has the Football hall of fame. Warren has a Packard museum. South of Cleveland is the Cuyahoga National Park (no Camping) Cleveland has the Rock and Roll hall of fame.

Tony Packo's restaurant is a local tradition in Toledo, close to Maumee Bay SP.

We love East Harbor SP, depends on the site though, it could get crowded during peak season.

Donít forget Erie

Iíll put a plug in for my hometown, Erie, PA.
Our Presque Isle State Park is lovely.
Lots to do, such as boating, fishing, hiking, waldameer amusement park.
Plenty to see and do, just off Interstate 90.
Message me if you want details.
