As a Top Of Georgia member, I know that is the policy in 99.9% of situations, however I think they are making an exception for the eclipse, so phone them.

What I heard before I headed up to Escanaba for the International Wally event was that there would be a three day minimum, payable in advance. Its a great place to see it, weather permitting, and we're planning on being up there.

Its up in the mountains at about 1800' elevation and see what you can work out.

Give them a phone call at (706) 878-3590.

As I understand it, Top of Georgia is NOT in the total eclipse zone. Hawasee is but I could not fine anything available for my Classic. The road between Helen and Hawasee is going to be packed. I saw the partial I 84 and it was way cool but I am going to have to miss this one. I am in Fl and just didn't want to drive 2 days North for a 5 minute event and then 2 days back. I am sure I will regret not going but it really isn't a good idea for me at this point. And as someone mentioned the weather may not cooperate. I do think it would be a cool thing to see if you happen to be close or already have reservations but trying to find a place this late may be rather difficult. Those people who are really into that kind of stuff made reservations years ago.

I'd like to stay at Palmetto Cove, if possible.

We have reservations at a campground farther north, but if we stay there we would have to drive a long way to get into the "totality" zone.

How could I get on the Palmetto Cove list?

Yea, Top of Georgia has about 150 sites, expandable to over 300 for special events. Should be no trouble getting a site, but call and the host will tell you what the status is. Really nice people there

We camp at Indian Creek in the Smokey Mountain Nat'l park above Cherokee for the last two weeks of August every year. Planning on driving to Andrews, NC to watch the eclipse

I booked a TN state park online earlier in the year and believe I saw a state park listed as darksky in the upper central part of the state. It may not be close enough to the path but worth a look and you can view at night too.

The Tennessee Cumberland Plateau Campground is a WBCCI Airstream only park on the Cumberland Plateau between Nashville and Knoxville. You might check availability there. It's pretty wooded but there was open area near their fishing pond.

We found a place near Clemson. Now where do we go to sign up for clear skies?

So we are going to go to Top of Ga Aug 5/6 to break in the AS.

For the Solar Eclipse we will be attending the AS Rally in Palmetto RV in SC (Aug 20-22) :-) They were very nice and let us have a spot. And it will be great to do our first rally! Can't wait to meet y'all noggin.

Actually it is and so is Helen, to the South of it. See attached information:
______________

Local Circumstances for the 21 AUG 2017 Total Solar Eclipse at Helen, GA:

Latitude: 34° 42' 05" N Longitude: 83° 43' 54" W
Duration of Totality*: 1m 41s Partial phase start: 1:06:23PM (EDT), at "1:30 o'clock" on the sun's disk
Totality Start*: 2:35:47PM (EDT)
*All times shown are calculated for the lat/long specified above, and are accurate to within a couple of seconds, due mainly to influences of the "edge effects" at the start and end of totality.

This reminds me of when folks would drive to the cape to watch the shuttle launches. I did it too. Sides of roads clogged, but it was a great group of people. Most spent the night so they'd be in position. The one I drove over to was cancelled with :32 on the clock.
But, I later got to be on the press mound literally next to that countdown clock for a shuttle launch. I must say, it still gives me goosebumps to feel that sound coming.

DSCAR I stand corrected and thank you. Top of Georgia is a great place and it is my HOME unit and will get back there as often as possible so I am happy that they will be in the eclipse.
Molly's dad.....people still line the parks and bridges in Titusville for the rocket launches. If you haven't even seen on in person it is kinda cool. Apparently Space X is launching a really big one in November and the local news is already warning of crowds.

We have a reservation at TOG for the eclipse. Just called them about a week ago. He said they have plenty of spots and only $12/night for members.

Give them a call. Rates differ based on membership and they are allowing non-Airstreams (first time ever) at a much higher rate.

Check out Woodsmoke Family Campground http://woodsmoke.webs.com/. They’re about ½ mile off of I-26 at exit 97 near Columbia, South Carolina. SCE&G cancelled the construction of two new nuclear plants yesterday and a lot of contractors were staying there. It's in the line of totality. There are a couple of other campgrounds closer to Jenkinsville, SC that were established for the new nuke project, I'm sure that they are emptying out today as well.

Hi Bruce,

The $12 rate is for members of the WBCCI Georgia unit who own and operate the park. If you are an Airstream owner you would pay a very reasonable $20 a night. You need to call the park to reserve a spot for this special event.

Thanks Bill,

We reserved a site the beginning of June with Jim B. Looking forward to the eclipse and meeting fellow Airstreamers.

I just got this email...

THE GREAT AMERICAN ECLIPSE

In case you haven't heard, The Great American Eclipse is coming our way Monday August 21, 2017. The Eclipse will peak over The Top of GA at 2:36 pm EDT when the moon obscures 100% of the sun and you can bet this will be an unforgettable experience. The last eclipse that crossed the U.S. from coast to coast was in 1918.

Do you have plans for viewing this historic event? The Top of Georgia is inviting you to witness the once in a lifetime event sitting outside your Airstream at the Top.

As a member of the GA Unit your daily parking rate is still $12 per day. If you bring a non-airstream buddy, their rate is $20 per day and if you have an Airstream but aren't a GA unit member your rate is $20 per day also. Most all the campgrounds and hotels in the area are sold out but we still have availability.

Don't forget your solar eclipse glasses for viewing. Sunglasses do not provide enough protection.

If you have questions, please call the park host at (706) 878-3590.

Regards,

Max Laseter, President
GA Unit WBCCI
Top of Georgia
