So. Colorado Bike Tour de Colorado/Fly fishing June 2010 - 08 23FBSE
We just got back from a 10 day trip to Southern Colorado. I have a group of friends who rode in the Bike Tour de Colorado and I was the sag wagon for two of my friends while I meandered through the south and went fly fishing.
Trip included stops and stays along rivers in:
Gunninson, CO (Rosy Lane Campground, Taylor Fork River) - camped at national park and floated the Gunnison and also fished the Taylor Fork river.
Pagosa Springs, CO (Blanco River RV Park, Blanco River) [owners had several airstreams they were restoring and also one gutted AS that served as the "airstream general store" for the campground.] Fished the Blanco and San Juan Rivers.
Salida, CO (Four Season RV Park, Arkansas River) Camped on the Arkansas and fished it as well - fantastic fishing and a beautiful camping spot. Nice way to finish the trip.
The first stop was for 5 days and we boondocked at Rosy Lane. I got experience using my 2 Honda 2000i generators and I LOVE them. Made boondocking very comfortable and really only used them in the morning for coffee and then when I wanted to charge the batteries for an hour. The rest were at RV Parks.
I had a great time as this was my maiden long voyage for the airstream. Saw some beautiful sites, had a lot of fun fly fishing (my addiction), and enjoyed intersecting with the folks who did the Tour de Colorado ride. They really appreciated my airstream accommodations after a few hot days going over 11K+ summits and camping in tents!
I learned a lot about the trailer and discovered a few items that needed to be fixed but overall it was a fantastic trip and I certainly got my road experience going over 6 major mountain passes with the airstream and my 08 Toyota Tundra TV. The most harrowing part was driving the airstream past all of the cyclists participating on the ride and going over the passes with me!
I've included a 10 snapshots from the trip.
1. Cow moose and calf crossing river - look closely.
2. Southern CO vistas - breathtakingly open
3. Airstreams make great bike locks
4. My AS camping on the Arkansas in Salida
5. Airstream general store at Blanco RV Park in Pagosa Springs
6. Older AS that arrived at Blanco RV Park while we were there.
7. My AS camping at Rosy Lane CG outside of Gunnison on the Taylor Fork River
8. Taylor Reservoir and mountains
9. My strenuous activity at the end of the day of fishing - cooling my jets in a river of my choice with a refreshing beer.
10. Gunnison river near Gunnison - taken from our float trip
Now I have to plan my next adventure!

Thanks. We had a great time and the moose siting was pretty cool. On the moose topic - we were up in Jackson, WY a month ago and had over 8 moose sitings. I have never seen so many during a short period!

Sandy;
Take a peek at the Route 66 rally that Four Corners Unit is having with the New Mexico Route 66 Association. There is a posting on the forums. You don't have to be a 4CU member to attend. We start in Tucumcari, N.M. on 7-22, go to Albuquerque on 7-24 and end at Gallup, NM on 7-24. The posting by KenJ will give all of the details.

This sure made my day a couple of years ago up in the Grand Tetons' Oxbow Bend. He was grazing on our side of the river with his mate and then once the sun hit the water, he headed back to the other side.
Sure sounds like your fishing trip was a good time.

Glad you had a great time. They all ride by my place as they come down of the Grand Mesa. We have even had a moose go through our yard about 2 years ago. They are fun to watch.
