Sedona, Southern Arizona - Winter trip planning

We decided to mix it up this winter and to head to AZ, Southern Arizona. The idea is to start with a 2 day haul from the SF Bay area to Death Valley and then to head to Sedona via Kingman.

We try to book early in case there are good State Parks (we usually avoid RV parks with 50+ packed large rigs and go for the smaller parks where we can fit our 25ft) or to have a list of potential good boon docking sites.

Are there any suggestions for good places along the Kingman - Sedona - Blythe - (Kofa?) - area?

We will head back via Joshua Tree NP.

Don't miss Lees Ferry , a Federal campsite high on a hill overlooking the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon. Rarely full and super cheap with the senior federal card ($20.00 for life)

Check out Dead Horse Ranch state park in Clarkdale near Sedona. I believe the Natl Forest campgrounds in Oak Creek Canyon are closed in the wintertime, but not sure.

The sites at Oak Creek should be open now. I would recommend Manzanita or Cave Spring. If you like beer try out the grand canyon brewery in Williams. ;-)

We stayed at Dead Horse Ranch S.P. in April for the Verdy Birdy Fest. Even did the kayak float down the Verde River. Fun time.

Yes, we have stayed at Lee's ferry before. Great area, beautiful hiking. But how is the weather going to be in December? I remember 2 years ago in the area in Dec it was below freezing during the day.

Lost Dutchman also seems to be a nice place. Perhaps we will stay in State Parks when possible, they seem to be nice.
