I second Rubamuk13.
Beautiful car!
Hwy 2 is a very scenic drive compared to I-90. As Bcheever stated watch ahead for forest fires and air quality. It look pretty decent right now but it can change dramatically in just a couple hours. In which case I-90 is a much safer drive. We were driving between Coeur d’Alene and Leavenworth last September and thought we would take that beautiful scenic route. About 2 hours in, we couldn't see past 30' in any direction. Took the next Hwy south (hwy 21) to I-90. Which wasn't much better visually but a much straighter road. Traffic was moving at 23-30 mph and sometimes that seemed too fast. That was not a good day on the road.
Enjoy your drive back but beware of weather and fire conditions.

That's what I love about this forum, everyone wants to be so helpful, no matter how much it might inconvenience them!

Almost bought a 59 convertible 2 years ago & it had the Breezeway reversed top as well ON A CONVERTIBLE...incredibly cool.

Does have a/c. It has lived inside a climate controlled basically a private museum environment since 1986. I'll be it's 3rd owner. The 35 yo tires look as new to give you an idea of condition. Friend picked it up yesterday, said the 20 mile drive to his location was as if he was some sort of celebrity...but all based on the accolades/comments the car kept getting. I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS!

Tire Distributor Seattle?

Anyone have a tire distributor connection in the Seattle area? 62 Lincolns had 14" tires, which are scarce as hen's teeth. Need 225/70 or 75/14s. Difficult to find.

Camera coverage

Input as to best windshield camera mount and/or camera. Got an old Samsung S4 which I could use as a video camera to document the road trip.

Also need thoughts on needing multiple USB hookups. WAZE app on phone, power to windshield mount video camera/phone & computer.

Using Verizon, should I get another phone option to ensure coverage?

My wife has AT&T and I have Verizon (best of both worlds) Out West Verizon seem to have better coverage. While Midwest and east AT&T seems better. I know that is a generalization but that was our experience the last few years.
Might not hurt to get cheap "Walmart phone" with a different carrier just for the ride.

We have been very happy with our new AT&T Nighthawk 5G hotspot, but, as suggested, the coverage may be better on the East Coast:

Hi

Tires in general are a problem right now. I would start looking nationally and thinking about shipping them in. There's also the obvious gotcha of getting tires that have been on the shelf for 20 years when you buy them from Uncle Bob's Finest Online Tire Warehouse ....

Discount Tire actually does a good job with the old ones - if they are out there ?

Best wishes for the adventure. I have a newer rag top but leather is uncomfortable at 90 degrees.

Just a thought about the old cars. Most engines fail due to running hot. Check the underside of the radiator hoses at connections...if they are soft they will fail.

If the temp gets high the old thermostats fail closed. There generally are two bolts on the top of engine hose bracket holding the thermostat. You can run without the thermostat till you can replace it.

LBelle's first route is right on. I have gone that way half dozen times towing and not towing. There are some hills, but take it easy on the old car and if you make all the suggested upgrades, it should roll right along. One of my trips was in a 39 Ford Deluxe and I never had to shift below second gear.

Take the middle route

We just came back from Washington (back to Alabama). We went back through Denver (our son lives there). Then to KC and St Louis. It was humid but way more tolerable than the northern heat. That’s my suggestion.

I agree with 2015 25 FB regarding the power steering pump. I owned a 1966 Continental 4 dr convertible. The power steering pump can leak internally and send power steering fluid into your engine oil. Look for hints of ATF in the engine oil. A replacement pump may be hard to find if you are stranded. But they can be rebuilt if not damaged. At a minimum you should replace the lower power steering pump hose where it exits the pump at the bottom. A straight piece about 6” long. Good luck. I love these cars! I’ve had a dozen vintage cars since college many moons ago.

My vote is I94 across Montana. Then US2 to the Makinaw bridge and then South. Stay as far north as you can here on the west side of the Rockie Mountains.

Lots of good advice above.

Not mentioned here yet is the little coolant bypass hose and fan belts. Don't forget those...

And while the car is in the air, have the brakes inspected, paying attention to the wheel cylinders.

Lincoln ragtop

My brother owned a 1959 mark 4 convertible with 85,000 miles on the clock.
You could cruise at 80 mph all day and never no you were going that fast.
Ignition points were used for almost a century and aren’t prone to failure.
In a pinch you can clean them with a nail file or pack of penny matches.
If your electronic ignition fails, you stop!
Tires, brakes and suspension ie. steering, axle bearings, ball joints etc. Are the most important components.

Car enthusiast and mechanic for over fifty years.

If you are really worried about heat, drive early and late in the day/night.
A late morning/early afternoon siesta, leisurely lunch and maybe nap can be a great way to miss the heat (and sun if the rag top is dropped). Good for you and the car. Happy Trails.
