San Francisco area--two weeks

I am looking for a spot near San Francisco (23' Airstream travel trailer) for about two weeks. I stayed at the SF RV Park in Pacifica a few years ago and it was fine. I flew to SF two weeks ago to check it out and it was a bit run-down. I do not want to stay there again. My son works in SF downtown and I was hoping to find a place by the water so he can surf when he is not at work.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Pelican Point RV is nice, especially if you like to be near the beach!

Oops, sorry I meant to say Pillar Point. Right next to the beach.

Pelican Point Sucks! PLEASE look at the reviews before you go there! I would not darken their doors again! Really poor management...and employees!
I would share my experiences but then I would be ranting

Yes, the two shouldn't be confused.

Yes, Alan is correct Pillar Point is a great area close to SF and right next to Mavericks (pro surfing only) but many other surfing areas close by.
30 minutes to SF.

San Francisco Bay Area

We are headed to the Bay area in a couple of weeks for 5 days. Any recommendations on RV Parks? We heard that Pillar is good but they don't accept reservations.

I wouldn't want to pull my trailer through SF. I don't even like going through there in my truck. We usually take my wife's Camry. Just too congested with many narrow streets and steep hills. Even with the Camry, we much prefer to park away from SF and take the ferry from Larkspur, say, which turns a stressful drive into a delightful excursion. I've stayed at the KOA in Petaluma, which I recommend, and is convenient from Hwy 101. I'm sure there are many other similar parks to the east and south of SF that you could use as a base camp.

I'd be careful where you stay. Crime has gone through the roof in San Francisco. Auto theft is endemic, so is violent crime. I think because of the tourist nature of the place it's downplayed. The city has changed for the worse in the past few years.

Fri/Sat are difficult to get in at Pillar Point but if you're planning to arrive mid week, I'd give them a ring and they will at least give you an idea of your chances!
