Talking San Antonio this weekend

Hey folks, we're taking the Tradewind on her maiden voyage this weekend to San Antonio. She's not ready for luxury, but should be liveable for a few days! Just curious if anyone else would be in the area? My wife and i would love to meet with some of yall and trade notes/get ideas/shoot the breeze! Anyway, if anyone will be around, post up.. we will have some free time Saturday afternoon-night.

thanks, cya soon!

Hi Cody & Jenn -- Just curious from an SA native... in early May I drove by some campgrounds W of Austin and just east of Blanco I'd consider. Where are you planning to camp? It is an unusual talent to find good camping near such a big city -- and S.A. has become just that in the 30 years I've been away. I've got to plan for a fall trip.

hey bob.. we're plannin on stayin in the KOA on grendall(sp?) since it is near the at&t center and the riverwalk.. both places we need to be. i also want to be fairly close to the inlaws' hotel in case living conditions go south during the trip! like i said, the AS is BARELY habitable right now, and not sure how things will act while staying in it. hopefully this trip will tell me what needs immideate attention so i can get those problems fixed and we can start enjoying the camper more. for me, if it's out of sight, it's out of mind. thats one reason i havent worked on this thing in so long!

Bob - You're in my neck of the woods now. The little RV park east of Blanco is on Hwy 165 and is right on the Blanco "River" (read that as shallow, sometimes dry, but when running it's crystal clear & cool), but almost no trees for shade. On towards Wimberley on RR 2325, there is a new'ish RV park on the western edge of Wimberley, lots of trees, and quiet. You should also take a look at the RV parks around Canyon Lake - really nice!! Let me know if you come down here. I'll introduce you to a local micro brewery in Blanco that's putting out a good product, and show you a really good artery clogging chicken fried steak.

Sorry I missed this post earlier. There are some nice parks around San Antonio. I've driven through the KOA you mentioned and it's centrally located. Whitsend, now that you mention it I've seen that park on Hwy 165. I'll check it out closer next time. The Wimberley park looks nice too. BTW there is a nice park on Lake Medina too but that's probably further than Cody and Jenn would venture to considering this a maiden voyage. Once my trailer is back in one piece I plan on staying over at parks in the vicinity of San Antonio. I hope you'll report on your trip to San Antonio and how the trailer worked. Sorry I couldn't meet you tonight.

well guys, the weekend is going well. we have discovered that our dog, who LOVES roadtrips, is not much of a camping dog. he has been cooped up most of the time, and he's in a new place which is kinda strange for him! the AS pulled great coming up here, but brakes would have been nice. we have discovered a few odds and ends that would make this more comfortable (better jacks, awning, the dinette i'm tryin to decide on), but overall it has been a good first run. a hot shower would also be a must have next time! sorry for the short notice, sounds like we could have met up with some of yall with a little more time to work on it! the trip was short notice for me too, but next time we will post up right away! we'll let yall know how the break down and return trip goes.. and jenn says "howdy"!

back home

k, we made it home with no trouble (yea!!) we have come up with quite a few ideas that would make our next trip and future trips better. more re-arranging and cabinet work than i anticipated! mostly though, it was just like i expected. the original a/c held up like a champ, no electrical problems, the "rigged" toilet made it through the weekend, etc.! Jenn has also decided to start an AS scrapbook, which i think is a pretty cool idea. it will cover our fixin-up and the first trips while under construction. i think she will need to start a new book for trips once the camper is done(if it can ever be called "done"!) well, enough chattin, it's time to go shopping!

Cody, sorry we missed you. We live on the east side of Bexar County near IH-10 & FM 1518. We're out on our 3 month trip getting ready to check into the rally at Bozeman tomorrow.
