route to outer banks coming from the north

We are headed to Kitty Hawk this Saturday. We will be coming down 95 from the North. Any suggestions on the route? Should we avoid the tunnel on 64 near Norfolk?

I wish we could leave Friday and drive part way, but we both work till 10:30 Friday night.

Coming to Outer Banks this Weekend

Can't give much good advice on getting to NC from up North other than avoiding I-95 around DC (use I-295). There are some road issues on the Outer Banks themselves. Looks a little south of where you are going.

We live in Virginia Beach. We go through the tunnels every time we travel with our 28' Serenity. No problems. For you the biggest challenge is the construction on I-64. Be patient! Good luck.

We had a great time and perfect weather. This time of year you are always taking a risk for a hurricane to come up the coast.
