Route Suggestions - Plattsburgh, NY to Monmouth Beach, NJ

I'll be taking this route in about a week. Not too crazy about getting too close to NY City traffic. Also, I saw the Garden State Parkway allows TV's with trailers up to 45' but wasn't sure if that should be avoided.

Thanks in advance. I have a 27' Globetrotter and tow with a GMC Sierra 2500 HD Duramax.

Assuming you'll be taking the Thruway (I-87) south, I have taken I-287 from Suffern which would get you around most of the NYC traffic. You'll have to put up with the Garden State Parkway as it seems the most direct route to Monmouth Beach.

I-87, Route 17, Garden State Parkway ( mid morning, early afternoon ) time of travel is important as Route of travel. Route 17 on is congested.

Thanks for the information from you both. I’ll be leaving Plattsburgh on Friday. I’m thinking it would be best to hit the Parkway on Sat vs Friday afternoon. If Saturday, does time of day really matter?

My last couple of trips down to Colonial I was pretty surprised at the amount of traffic on the GSP.

The NYC metro area does have rush hour traffic even on the weekends. Its just not as bad as weekdays. As mentioned, Rt 17 does get congested.

87 to 287 in Suffern isn’t horrible. I did it last week in the opposite direction. 287 is busy, but 4 lane wide in spots. Then take 18 in Edison to Monmouth County.

Saturday or Sunday,,,,,,,or weekday between 11am and 2pm
But keep watching traffic advisories, one accident or construction can tie up traffic for hours and stick you on the highway for most of the day.
