Route from Salida, CO to Steamboat Springs CO

Looking for most direct AND easy route from Salida to Steamboat. Looks like we can go north to I-70, west on 70 and then take the 131 north to the 40 into Steamboat. The only part we haven’t driven, is the 131, so just want to be sure it’s ok for towing. Thx.

the 131 shouldn't be an issue. I drive it a lot (towing a Safari 27 FB) to get to Bear Creek and the lakes on the east side of the Flat Tops. its not a fast road so keep your speed in check. Once you hit the Yampa Valley its pretty flat into Steamboat.

Any numbered state highway that shows up on Google Maps at this scale:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/St...4d-106.8317158

. . . should be fine for towing, if your tow vehicle is otherwise capable IMO.

Ditto if it shows on a major brand road atlas.

From Salida to Leadville, to Minturn to Wolcott, to McCoy to Steamboat.

Another option for you is to go through Leadville and over Tennessee pass down to Copper Mountain and I-70 east to Silverthorne. Then take hiway 9 North to Kremmling and then west on hiway 40 into SBS. You have Rabbit Ears pass to go over but it’s a good road. Just keep your speed under control going down into Steamboat. We do it often pulling our 25’ FC with our F -150.
