Rotated your tires lately?

Today I stopped by AS of Spokane for a pre-trip inspection. A Funny thing happened. We found the left rear inside sidewall was separating. The tire was getting ready to come apart. It would have caused a lot of damage.

It was replaced with my Canadian made spare. Brake rotors, pads and never lube bearings were fine.
By the time I reach Florida my I will need my third set of tires for my trailer.

It's a good thing you had an inspection, we always go over our unit thoroughly before hitting the road. We rotate our tires every 5000 miles. What kind of tires are you running? We used to run the Goodyear Marathons, had lots of troubles, switched to the Maxxis tires and have had much better luck.

Are you saying that you will have replaced your tires 3 times by the time you reach Florida? Wow. How is it that on the old SOB's you find these old tires that have been on there for years and they seem to motor down the road and the Airstreams just eat up the tires? I guess its the weight or frequency of use or ?? Seems crazy though really.

Have a safe trip. Glad you spotted the bad one. Who needs a breakdown.. not a good feeling when you feel a flat tire and looking for a place to pull over knowing that tire tread is beating up your baby..

Vinnie

I will have a fresh set (third) of tires when or before I arrive in Florida. I have 50,000 miles on my trailer in under three years. She is heavy, right around 9,000lbs. I usually do not wait for my tires to wear to the minimum. I want a little more tread left than that.

My truck is on its third set as well. 55,000 miles 10,000 GVW.

I am running Marathons and probably will continue to do so. Maxxis tires are hard to find a dealer out here.

I guess i just have to get used to this. Im in the automotive field and i have customers yelling at me when they only get 30k out of a set of tires. I just changed all mine with Carlise's load range E. I will keep an eye on them but there is no way i will be towing 50k miles any time soon. Im lucky to get away on weekends. Sounds like you keeping a good eye on it and that will save grief down the road..

Another thing the that was noticed was the tires were not inflated enough.
I had been running them at 65 PSI. THe maximum specified by Airstream. This turned out to be too low. We bumped them up to 70 PSI.
