Reservation.gov site lengths

Looking at booking sites in Tetons area, it seems that the maximum site lengths in Rec.gov are for both trailer and tow vehicle combined - which puts us with a 23ft Flying Cloud at 43ft and severely limits site availability. Is this correct? I see larger trailers in you tube videos and photos at Gros Ventre for example.

Sometimes you can dangle part of the trailer a few feet past the end of the paved pad. Then unhitch and park your truck sideways in front of the trailer. Try to make sure to do all this so every trailer stabilizer and truck tire is still on asphalt. Some rangers are fussy about this.

Waterbeach this is quite common with the older parks as our RV's weren't so big back then.

However try using the website CampsitePhotos.com to see the various sites. They have great photos of each individual site. Many of the sites have vehicles parked in them when the photos are taken so you can easily see how and what kinds of vehicles are parked in them. It looks like there are some sizable trailers in there and many folks have their vehicles parked next to them.

This is a great research website as their collection of camp spot is quite vast.

A couple of years ago we snuck into Lizard Creek first thing in the morning with our 27' FB. It was a tight squeeze but we made it. Our total length is 51'. I found out that our minimum site depth IF we have at least 8' of overhang is 20'. In some parks, the length is limited because of windey roads, close tree clearances and large dips or bumps causing tail dragging. I agree with Hittenstiehl about using a combination of CampsitePhotos, Google maps (satellite view) and the campground map to choose reservation sites for size, sun and proximity to the latrine (all night slamming doors). We are always looking for no shade for our solar. - brad

This is our site in Gros Ventre May of this year with a 30ft fbb. It was 63A, which lists it as a 35ft site. The pads are wide enough to park side by side. One of the many pluses to no slides.
