Redwoods / Gold Beach, OR

We just returned from our 12 day trip from So Cal to the Redwoods in Nor Cal and then on to Gold Beach, OR.

We sure did enjoy the cool weather while away. We encountered just a few other AS's on the road but we did stick to the secondary highways like 101.

For anyone visiting these areas I highly reccommend the Ancient Redwood RV park in Redcrest. Many pull through sites that are nice and in a park like setting, we didn't even have to level the AS. While we we're there another AS pulled in. Steve and Deanna from Riverside with their 2013 International which we found out had purchased their trailer from the same place and person we did at Southwest Coaches in Corona, CA.

At Gold Beach we stayed at a place called Ireland's RV which is part of a large hotel complex. The location is wonderful, right on the beach with a mini lighthouse you can climb to see sweeping views of the beach. The owner's have let the place slip a bit but it has full hook ups but the bathrooms and laundry facilities are crummy so use the bathroom in you're AS for showers.

While in Gold Beach I highly recommend taking the jet boat tour up the Rogue river. We saw over 10 American Bald Eagles, Ospries, bear, elk and seals, well worth the cost.

I included a photo of our Rough Coat Collie Jack in our images file who is our co-pilot on all our AS adventures.

Gold Beach is the home of Backwoods Magizine - wonderful people, stop in and say hi and get a copy of their down home mag - neat.

Jeep Liberty

Thanks,

We purchased our 2010 Liberty new and it tows the AS great. On one tank we ended up getting 15.3 MPG.

We had planned to replace it with a new Liberty but Jeep in all their infinite wisdom is replacing this great little SUV with yet another car based model that other than the seven slat grille has nothing to do with it being a Jeep but will use the name "Cherokee".

I understand this has to do with the Fiat influence on all future Chrysler / Jeep products.

We love the Wrangler but need something a little less hard core so we'll check out the GC but sure hate to pay the high price.

For others heading to or around Gold Beach OR, there is another great RV park a few miles up the Rogue River on the north bank. The name is "Four Seasons RV Resort" and it is small, quiet and more remote than down by the ocean. They have a lot of visitors who like to fish, but the Jet Mail boats will stop at the Four Season Dock and pick you up and drop you off for the ride up the Rogue River...

Good to hear. I am a Lake Shasta RV Park at the moment but will be heading that way in a day or two. I will look into your suggestions.
