Red & Broom on the road for summer '13

We left Port O'Connor TX on the morning of 6-20 headed as far as Hillsboro to N.T.A.C. The next morning left and drove to Oklahoma City , where we were to meet up with some of our members of our Unit (Texas Coastal Plains Unit) heading to Huron SD for the International Rally. Just past the Windstar Casino we ran into Jack & Beverly Williams , who were stopped at a rest stop. We traveled to Oklahoma City together. The other 6 couples arrived a couple of hours later than us at a nice RV Park that goes by the name of Twin Fountains. The next morning we left around 07:00 on to Grand Island Nebraska. From there , the following day we made Custer South Dakota. The group spent the next 4 nights in a nice RV park (Custers Gulch). Each of us did our own thing from going to Mt. Rushmore to just taking it easy and cruising Custer State Park and seeing the wildlife.
On Thursday (6-27) the others left bright and early on their way to Huron. Broom and I went on to Spearfish SD City Campground , which I might say is the nicest municipal campground I have ever seen. After setting up I noticed an Airstream Interstate with an AIR forums sticker in the space behind us.
It turned out to be Doug & Maggie. Needless to say that we have really enjoyed their company and visitation.
More to come , however at this time I have NO idea which direction we will be going as I haven received my "Marching Orders" yet

Yes, indeed, Red and Nancy from Texas.

Have enjoyed several days visiting with them and, rumor has it, they will be joining us at a campground in Deadwood, SD, for the 4th of July weekend.

Life is good.

Got my marching orders. We leave the city park here in Spearfish today and go to Deadwood to stay thru the 4th of July. this means we will play tourist for a couple of days and check out the Casinos as well as the other sites. I might just go over to STURGIS and drool over some motorcycles while Broom is at a Casino. If I can remember how to post a photo I'll post some. The Black Hills have some beautiful scenery.

We left Deadwood fairly early Friday (July 5th) morning and headed East after looking at the Hot weather that we would have to go thru in the event of having to make a sooner than planned trip home due to a storm. We're connecting up with two couples leaving International in Huron SD in Mitchell SD after the 350 mi. run. From there the plan is to head towards the Upper Pen. of Michigan. People say that it is beautiful. I hope that is true. When we stopped for a bite to eat at Wall Drug Store in Wall SD we saw many Airstreams , trailers and motor homes that were coming from the International Rally in Huron. As we were leaving town we passed our good friends Ronnie & Judy Erb from the New Orleans. Didn't get to talk to them as we were getting on the freeway at the time. I'm still trying to remember how to post photos. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi you two!

Be sure to try pasties while in the UP, a local delicacy originating in food for miners to carry in their lunch pails.

Travel safe,

Maggie.

We stopped for a couple days just outside of Rochester Minn. Couldn't get access to the internet. We got to a County Park in Adams Co. WI.. Castle Rock Co. Park , beautiful park , but NO cell service or WiFi. We're at De Pere just outside of Green Bay at the present time for a day or two then it's on to the Upper Pen.

Well , just my luck. Laptop computer crashed. We got back to Port O'Connor TX. yesterday afternoon after the 1850 mile trip home If I can get the computer working again I'll post some photos. At least , I think I will. Spent several days in the upper pen. Visited several casinos , donating money to the Indians , as I call losing.
Had to try the pasties (pass-ties) in Brimely MI. Broom and the other ladies made some and they were great. Something different from the South Texas Tex-Mex food.
I was surprised at the beauty of the U.P. and couldn't get used to seeing a freshwater body of water so large as lakes Superior & Michigan. Went to the Ship Wreck Museum at Whitefish Point MI. That is the closest point of land to where the Edmund Fitzgerald went down. So many ships have gone down in the lakes taking their crews with them over the years. it's an eye opener to a South Texas lad as myself.
