Portland Maine Campground
I'm going to a convention in Portland Maine in late June.
Anyone know of a great campground nearby. I want someplace that I can invite other attendees to - for smores, hotdogs or adult beverages.

We stayed in Freeport last summer at the "Reclamation" something something. It was owned/run by U of Maine on a working farm. Right on the water and very pretty with well spaced sites. Not many RV sites but minutes from downtown Freeport, LL Bean, Kayaking, etc.
We used to live in Portland and I can't think of any campgrounds in Portland proper - of course, we weren't RVers then. Now I can smell 'em a mile away.

There's a KOA nearby (Saco/Old Orchard Beach) - we used it twice as an overnight stopover on our way to and from Halifax, NS. The sites were smallish but all wooded and the ground was abit muddy, but it was a really nice place. GREAT seafood places to eat nearby!
Good Luck!

Yes, that was it! Thanks....
Seemed like a kayakers paradise. Lots of tenters with kayaks and shoots built over the rocks to help get your craft to the water. Very nice place. We cooked lobster, corn on the cob right on site. One of our best camping spots ever.
One note, there are two ways into the campground. One goes over a tiny little bridge. I would recommend going the other way. A call to the office will help, everyone was very friendly. Ayup

Desert of Maine
Desert of Maine is a small campground just outside of Freeport, Maine, to the West of I-295. We've stayed there several times while visiting our kids. The new Owners are very pleasant and accomodating - as were the old Owners. As I recall, they have sites with full hookups available - although all we've personally used in the past is water and electric. The connected attraction - and the camp's namesake - provides several hours of enjoyable roaming.

Wassamki Springs Campground
We have stayed at Wassamki Springs CG just outside of Portland a couple of times. It has been about 5 years but it was an ok campground. It was a short car ride to downtown Portland.

Southern Maine
Wolf Neck Woods.
Probably the best this side of Mount Desert Island.
Wind blown, tidal zones and near an organic beef farm.
In trust with the University of Maine I believe.
College cool incontinence but good.
