Parking near Fort Lauderdale
We are taking a cruise out of Fort Lauderdale Nov 20th for a month. We tried booking a spot to store the truck and trailer at the port but so far no luck. Can any suggest a secure place to leave our truck and Airstream? I'm willing to look at any place within 4-5 hour drive from the port.
Thanks for your help.

When I used to live in Ft. Lauderdale, there was an RV park in town called Kozy Kampers that may allow you to simply park your rig. There are also some storage facilities that have outside parking for rigs, but can't vouch for security unless there is an onsite caretaker during open hours,

There is a self storage place in Hallandale, just south of Fort Lauderdale. They have covered spaces for RV and cars.
Hallandale Self Storage
You could also store it at the Miami Everglades Campground. It is in Homestead (1 hour away from Ft Lauderdale). It is a very nice place and you could arrive a couple days before for a more pleasant trip....
Hope this helps.

Miami-Dade County - Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces - Larry and Penny Thompson Park
just south of the miami metro zoo......
they have a storage lot but you'll need to see if it is full.
if you want to leave it hooked up you can do that too but it will cost more.

We are doing the same think in late Feb. I checked around and very near Melbourne there is a campground that will store your trailer. He quoted me a price of $10/week ( in late Feb, may be different now). It's Breezy Palms RV, on US 1 south Melbourne. 321.724.6398. I think when I checked it was about 2.5 hrs. drive to Ft. Lauderdale. It's probably the same distance now. I couldn't find much down the Ft. L way and we plan to spend a few days in Melbourne before we go so it works out nicely for us.
Good luck. Which cruise are you taking ???? We're taking W. Carrib. w/ Royal Carib. lines ( I think). Have a great trip.
PS: the AS park in Melbourne does not do storage.
I also checked with a self-storage in Pt. St. Lucie. They said no problem "IF" they have space when the time comes. They charge $50/mo. I'd have to find their number. If you're interested I'll look for it.

For sure you can leave it at the city of Orlando campground at Turkey Lake. They have a large area and charge I think $10 per day. It looks pretty safe to.

Hi Everyone;
You have been great; so many suggestions, so much help.
We booked a place in Hallandale which is about 20 minutes south of the port. We leave Nov 20th with Holland America for two weeks then take another cruise Dec. 6th for 10 days with old friends.
If you are every coming north, we have plenty of room for "courtesy parking" on our property. (3hrs from Toronto) Best time to be here is the end of September when the leaves start to change colour.
Thanks again for everyone's help. Send us an e-mail if you are coming our way and I'll send you directions.

OK Kids, so what did you decide to do with your trailer ???? We are in the same boat ( pun intended ) and still up in the air about what to do with ours in Feburary I'm curious just how you made out. I found an RV park in the Homestead area and was going to check if they have a storage option available but so far still thinking about leaving it in Melbourne. I just hate to think of a 2.5 hr drive to get it only to come south again after the cruise. So still working on it.
Have a great time cruising and Airstreaming.

So, How did this arrangement work out ??? We're doing the same thing at the end of Feb. and will be looking to park our trailer for a week while going on a cruise. Would appreciate your rating the place you reserved at and if you could let me know which place you chose ( if you were happy that is).
Hope you enjoyed your cruises.

Hi Roger;
We ended up using the self storage at Hallendale, listed above from Gamana. The folks at Hallendale were very helpful, even let us print our cruise tickets. We will go back Dec 20th to get the truck and trailer. We are just back in Ft. Lauderdale for 48 hours, between cruises. If you use Hallendale Self Storage the address is 750 but when you get there there is no 750 between 730 and 770. You need to drive past 730, go around the corner and then you will find 750. I'll post again after we pick up the truck and trailer Dec 20th.
Had a great cruise with Holland America, loved their private beach at Half Moon Kay.
Enjoy your vacation

Thanks. I will keep this place in mind for when the time comes. I was checking for RV parks and there are not many to choose from so I like the self-storage idea. Enjoy your cruising and look forward to how it all worked out when you pick it up.
Thanks,

Another Option
We use the U-Stor-it which is located just behind the Ft Lauderdale airfield and next to the cruise port. They have open field parking for all sorts of vehicles, we even see construction equip in there. Info
2010 Ne 7Th Avenue Dania Beach, FLFacility Phone Number: (954) 525-3040
We have stayed at the Hampton Inn and they have a shuttle that we use, they specialize in the cruise crowd.

Thanks, I checked w/ the Hallendale storage mentioned yesterday. They are still an option but they charge a months storage minimum and it would come to about $110 with the admin charges. They cannot pro-rate it for the week we're looking for so I will still look around but they are there for us if nothing else turns up. I will check the one mentioned about also by eagleye.
Thanks all, appreciate the suggestions

Just picked up our truck and trailer from Hallendale Storage. Everything was as we had left it, no problems. Staff is courteous and helpful. Cost was $140.00 for 26 days. I spoke with a lady who runs a private campground near the port. She was asking $275.00 for the month. (truck and trailer)
Hope this helps. Let us know what you finally go with.

I spoke to the people at the U-store it. They were very nice but also charge a month minimum. So with their admin charges it would be just about $110. BUT, she told me they were going to run a special and give 1st. month free so it would only run about $20. That sounds like a go to me. I'll check with them when we get closer and jump on that train if it leaves the station.
Thanks all for the suggestions.
Glad things worked out so well for you Kids. It's so nice when long distance plans just fall into place. Nice job on that one. How was parking at the port terminal ???? Or did you leave your truck with the trailer ????
Thanks, Merry Christmas, take care

Hi Roger;
Yes we left our truck with our trailer and took a cab to the terminal. Cab fare was $35.00 each way.
Sounds like you have found a deal. I felt better about leaving my truck and trailer in a secure area behind a fence rather than out in a field somewhere.
Enjoy your cruise.

Glad you had a good cruise and a safe spot. I too feel the same way. We plan to drive to the port and park out truck there. At least at this time that is.
Hope the rest of your travels are just as good.
See ya on the road sometime
